April is a season when many people take their first steps into new environments, with events like school entrance ceremonies and company induction ceremonies.
Elderly care facilities such as day service centers may also be welcoming new seniors.
This time, we’re introducing recommended origami for April.
Because origami uses the fingers extensively, it’s also used as rehabilitation after a stroke and as a form of brain training.
Everything we’re introducing today is themed around April.

strawberryNEW!

Strawberries contain vitamin C and polyphenols, making them a fruit that helps maintain good health.
Sadly, we can’t eat any today, but I’ll introduce an origami piece that evokes the feeling of spring.
After folding the origami paper into a triangle twice, open the pocketed part into a square.
Rotate the paper so that the corner at the center of the origami is pointing down, then fold the lower edges on both sides slightly outside the center line.
Next, fold the top edge downward, this time aligning it precisely with the center line.
Open the four pocketed spots along the folded top edge and color them green.
Flip the paper over, fold the top edge to the center line, and fold it down further to create the calyx.
Once all the calyx parts are done, press out from the center with your finger to expand and complete the strawberry.
It looks just like a real strawberry—you’ll definitely feel tempted to eat it.
A simple flower made with an accordion fold

When we think of spring, we often picture lush natural landscapes, with flowers we don’t even know the names of blooming everywhere.
This piece is about creating those vibrant, colorful spring flowers using combinations of origami.
The process is to accordion-fold the paper, then fold the whole piece in half and round off the edges with a cut.
After that, open it up, connect the pieces, and shape them into a circle.
By changing the colors of the origami or varying the sizes, let’s create a colorful flower field.
four-leaf clover

In fact, each leaf of a four-leaf clover has its own meaning: hope, sincerity, affection, and happiness.
Put together, they become “good luck.” In Japan, the flower language of the four-leaf clover signifies good luck, but in the West, it can also mean “fulfilled love” or “fame.” Why not try making a four-leaf clover out of origami? It doesn’t require many folds, so even beginners should be fine.
It’s an origami piece you can use in many ways—as an accent for illustrated letters or as a small charm when giving sweets and other gifts.
a flower bouquet

A bouquet of colorful flowers conveys a happy vibe and feels perfect for spring.
This project shows how to make those flowers with origami, then bundle them into a colorful, three-dimensional bouquet.
The key is how each flower is made: first crease it by folding toward the center, then use those creases as guides to shape it so the petals open up.
You’ll be making many fine creases, so some wrinkles will appear along the way—but that might also add to the flowers’ softness.
Try using different origami papers and aim for a bright, colorful bouquet.
Dandelion wreath

Spring is the season when the weather warms and many flowers begin to appear, and you’ll likely spot more dandelions as well.
This craft recreates dandelions—a quintessential spring flower—using origami and combines them into a wreath-like shape.
To make the dandelion flowers, fold a strip of origami paper in half and then fold it again to make it narrower, cut fine slits along the edge, roll it up, then spread and shape it.
The wreath base is made by assembling triangular units, and it’s recommended to use green to evoke leaves.
Finally, combine all the parts and add decorative elements like leaf pieces to complete the project.
Tulips and butterflies

Tulips in full, colorful bloom are one of the quintessential flowers of spring, and they powerfully signal that warmer days have arrived.
This is a three-dimensional decoration inspired by those springtime tulips and the butterflies fluttering around them.
First, prepare four rectangular sheets of paper, fold each in half, then cut and combine the pieces to form the tulip blossoms.
Paying close attention to how you cut the shapes and where you layer them is key to conveying the tulips’ vigor.
Finally, assemble these with stem and leaf parts for the display, add butterfly pieces around them, and you’re done.
Tulip wreath

Tulips are one of the flowers that color the spring season, and their rich variety of hues conveys the excitement of spring.
This is a wreath that captures that springtime joy by arranging colorful tulips on a circular base.
It’s recommended to make the wreath base in green to evoke leaves; create triangular pieces and insert adjacent pieces into the gaps to form a circle.
Then just add tulips and other decorations to the base to finish.
To make the tulips really stand out, it’s important to use folds to give them a three-dimensional look.
