When I attended my first music festival as a freshman in college, I was captivated by its charm—“I can’t believe there’s a place this free and this fun.” I share information about wonderful music festivals every day to help grow the community of festival fans.

This time, we’ll introduce free-admission festivals in the Kansai region.

There are many festivals organized by local communities that highlight the unique character of each area, making them fun for the whole family.

Festivals are also great places to discover new musicians.

Kasugano Music FestivalSun, 10/12 Nara Prefecture

Kasugano Music Festival is held with Kasuga Taisha as the main stage, alongside several stages set up in Nara Park and around the town. It’s a community-participation music festival aimed at city-building, featuring dedication performances, choral singing, and more. A market also appears at the main venue, where you can enjoy delicious food.

Ibaraki Bakuon FestSat 10/4 – Sun 10/5, Osaka Prefecture

Ibaraki Bakuon Fest is pronounced “Ibaraki Bakuon Fest,” with “bakuon” written as “the sound of barley.” It’s a festival of beer and music. Also, “Fest” is the German way of saying “festival,” reflecting respect for and dedication to Germany, the home of beer. You can see that spirit in the featured food and the lineup of artists as well.
