We’re putting together playlists of the must-hear lineup from FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL—Japan’s flagship summer music festival since 1997!

FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL ’16 Performing Artists (21–30)

RetrogradeJames Blake

James Blake is a British singer-songwriter who began his career in 2009.

He quickly drew attention, placing second in a UK award given to emerging artists in 2010.

With songs that have a unique worldview, the venue is likely to be instantly enveloped in his atmosphere on the day as well.

Ken Yokoyama, who once made his mark as the guitarist for Hi-STANDARD, is appearing solo at Fuji Rock.

This is the song he performed when he appeared on Music Station last year.

I can’t forget how he said, “I want to show young people how cool the guitar is,” and played with such passion.

I’d love to see that performance live at Fuji Rock this time.

Kill The Noise, an artist gaining attention in today’s EDM scene who also performed at Ultra Music, one of the world’s largest EDM festivals, in 2014, is coming to Fuji Rock.

With hard-hitting, badass tracks, it’s sure to get the energy sky-high.

Having a PartyLee “Scratch” Perry

LEE “SCRATCH” PERRY turns 80 this year.

Not only a musician but also a producer, he has continued to influence the reggae scene and the global music scene, and is a superstar known as a living legend.

Let’s relax and sway to some cool reggae.

Camals MullatsLa Gossa Sorda

As a veteran Spanish band with 17 years under their belt, La Gossa Sorda stands out with a style that blends rock, punk, reggae, ska, and even Valencian folk music.

The Valencian woodwind instrument, the dolçaina, also adds a distinctive flourish to their songs.

Coming HomeLeon Bridges

Coming HomeLeon Bridges

The artist behind the retro sound and deep, mellow vocals that might make you think it’s a veteran’s track is actually a newcomer who just debuted in 2014: Leon Bridges.

The music video is unified in black and white, and everything from the song to the video seems to be inspired by the ’50s and ’60s.

The track we’re featuring here was selected as a song for an Apple commercial.

Overflowing with a retro vibe, he’s an artist I’d recommend not only to adults but also to younger listeners.
