The Avalanches are an Australian DJ collective active since 1997.

Their work centers on a style called sampling—creating tracks by cutting out and processing phrases from other songs.

There are videos on YouTube that compile the original sources for each track’s samples, so be sure to check them out.

You’ll definitely be surprised.

Tears Are About to Fall - The Birthday

The Birthday, led by Yusuke Chiba—who once took the world by storm as the frontman of THEE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT.

Their songs, which truly embody rock, are just straightforward and undeniably cool.

And Chiba’s vocals and guitar—his voice is absolutely irresistible.

Get AwayThe Internet

The Internet is a soul/R&B band formed around vocalist Syd tha Kyd and synth player Matt Martians, who were originally active in a Los Angeles hip-hop collective.

The rap laid over the band’s sound is incredibly compelling—I’d love to experience it live.

FrecklesThe New Mastersounds

The New Mastersounds are a four-piece instrumental funk band from the UK.

Even that description alone exudes a stylish vibe, but their songs are even more sophisticated, chic, and cool.

Their music lets you sink into the performance at a relaxed pace, so it should fit right in with the atmosphere of Fuji Rock.

Jumpin’Todd Terry

Todd Terry – Jumpin’ (1994)
Jumpin'Todd Terry

Todd Terry, the New York producer hailed as a legend in the house music scene.

This track, released in 1994, carries a slightly nostalgic vibe yet still sounds incredibly cool today.

The four-on-the-floor bass will send the energy through the roof, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the venue turns into a full-on dance floor on the day.

Why Does It Always Rain On Me?Travis

Travis, who have led the UK rock scene for 20 years since they began in 1995.

Their appeal lies in songs that let you feel a beautiful worldview.

The lyrics of this song are lovely as well, so be sure to look them up and read them.

WILDTroye Sivan

Troye Sivan is a young singer-songwriter from South Africa.

He’s highly regarded by major artists like Taylor Swift and is an artist to watch right now.

He has publicly come out as a sexual minority, and his songs WILD, FOOLS, and TALK ME DOWN form a three-part series that portrays a complex romantic relationship.
