[Outdoor Festival] ITADAKI 2017 Venue Report

This is Daghiri, staff at Studio Rag Fushimi.

This time, we had the opportunity to do a behind-the-scenes sneak report on the outdoor festival “ITADAKI 2017” (hereafter, ITADAKI), held in Shizuoka in June!

My parents run a reggae bar called ONEBLOOD in Shizuoka City, and every year we set up a food and drink booth at events.

With that in mind, we’ll mainly introduce the flow from the day before at the food and drink booth through to cleanup, along with the features of Itadaki!

Regarding the main outline of the summitherePlease refer to the following.

The day before the big event

The summit venue is being held at Yoshida Park in Yoshida Town, Shizuoka Prefecture.

The Tochi staff have been on site since a week before the event and have begun preparations, whereas we will start our preparations from the day before the event.

Here is how Yoshida Park looked at the time of our arrival.

summit

It’s just that tents and the like are still set up in what is otherwise a completely ordinary large park.

It’s exciting to think the festival will take shape from here, isn’t it?

Even these booths, which were just rows of simple tents like this, turned in no time into…summit

summit

It's starting to look like a real shop!

Even after the store layout is decided, that’s not the end of it.

From here, we will start prepping each product.

At ONEBLOOD, we prepped a total of 2,500 food servings and 1,000 drinks.

Only after doing all that is the preparation for the day before finally complete.

Not only the food and drink booths but also the various stages are being prepared.

summit

Main stage and,

summit

Stages like the Eye-on-the-Summit candle stage are also steadily coming together.

And just like that, the day-before preparations—filled with excitement for tomorrow’s festival—are over in the blink of an eye.

on the day of receipt

Alright, the big day is here!

As the highly anticipated event finally begins, we’re approaching it with equal parts excitement and concern about whether our booth will meet everyone’s expectations.

I wonder what the turnout will be like.

I was curious, so I came all the way to the gate.

summit

There’s a long line!

This year, too, I could feel both the number of attendees and the excitement of our customers that made me confident the summit would be a success!

ONEBLOOD

Our team ONEBLOOD is also fired up and open for business!

summit

Here, we’d like to introduce the distinctive foods from each of the dining booths, including ours.

Above all, the summit’s food doesn’t contain any meat at all!

Please check out the cleverly crafted festival food!

First, usONEBLOODFrom.

ONEBLOOD Curry

This is the Jamaican curry (¥800).

A carefully crafted curry made from spices without using roux, topped with vibrantly colored vegetables.

It’s a Jamaican-style curry from the home of reggae, with a good kick of spiciness.

Adding pepper sauce to taste for extra spiciness is also great!!

It’s a curry we perfected through much experimentation, as bringing out deep richness without using meat is quite challenging.

ONEBLOOD Omelet Curry

And here is the omelet curry (¥800).

Compared to Jamaican curry, this curry is made with a milder roux that’s less spicy and easy for children and women to enjoy, topped with a soft-boiled egg—resulting in a curry that everyone is sure to love.

With the added topping of cheese, it might not be an exaggeration to call it a classic curry that everyone loves.

And another highlight product

ONEBLOOD Mega-Serving Yakisoba Bread

Mega-sized yakisoba bread (¥500)!

You’re probably thinking, “Is yakisoba the only thing?”

There’s bread underneath this yakisoba, and it’s serving as a substitute for a plate (lol).

Pile on a hefty serving of yakisoba, freshly cooked on the griddle, right then and there...

ONEBLOOD Mega-Serving Yakisoba Bread

Hey! Wait!

Look at this volume for just one coin!

A hugely popular, filling menu that’s easy on both your stomach and your wallet!

ONEBLOOD Fruit Punch

This is the fruit punch (¥600).

It’s a menu where you eat syrup-preserved fruits while sipping a diluted drink made from the syrup packed with their juices and extracts.

At the storefront, there are big containers filled with fruit-packed syrups like this, and the owner prepares and serves each drink one by one.

ONEBLOOD Fruit Syrup

You can also mix it with soda or your favorite alcohol, just the way you like!

A beautiful dessert drink that looks great in photos.

ONEBLOOD

Thanks to all of you, we had a huge success again this year!

Thank you all for visiting our store!

Now that we’ve wrapped up the introduction to ONEBLOOD, I’d like to introduce some other stores as well, and also showcase other creatively designed food and drink booths!

Other food and drink booths

This is a highly popular, much-talked-about shop every year.KarabinkaIt is!

Karabinka

A stylish restaurant focused on Asian cuisine, with delicious dishes.

It’s one of the most popular stalls at the summit—there’s never a time when the line disappears!

Here is one item I’d like to introduce from that Kalavinka.

Kalavinka Four

Pho (¥600)!

Loaded with ingredients and authentically delicious!

A wonderful dish that looks beautiful too!

Although the festival lasts until night, no matter how hot it is, there are times when you still want something warm like a soup, right?

A dish that answers those feelings!

The price is reasonable, so you can't help but reach for it.

Next up, here’s another popular spot.double (two-base hit in baseball)

double (two-base hit in baseball)

We’ve got everything from udon and curry to taco rice!

The set menu makes this a popular booth, and people love it!

Two-base chilled udon

From those, here is the refreshing chilled udon with summer vegetables (¥700)!

Vibrantly colored vegetables!

A perfect dish for hot days, with a bright tang from tomatoes!

Tuna also goes well with vegetables and tastes great, doesn’t it?

It's a visually stunning dish that's also popular with women!

Outdoor music festivals are hot... just so hot...

Here’s the perfect booth for just such an occasion.Muui Forest RanchIt is!

Muui Forest Ranch

Ice cream made from milk sourced from free-range grazing is exquisite!

Myui no Mori Farm Ice Cream

It's Natural Pasture Milk (¥400) and Organic Matcha (¥400)!

The rich, creamy milk flavor spreads throughout your mouth, and I’m amazed that you can get ice cream of this quality at a festival!

Even when I’m full from eating all kinds of dishes, there’s always room for something cold and sweet like this!

summit

And this long line here isSummit Booth

This will be a food and drink booth provided by the Itadaki staff!

Here is that popular product!

Summit Booth Chichinieri

It’s the chichinielli (¥1,600)!

This pizza is a wood-fired, aromatic pie topped with Shizuoka’s famous whitebait (shirasu) — a truly Shizuoka-style pizza!

It’s a pizza crafted so that locals and visitors from outside the prefecture alike can enjoy the flavors of Shizuoka!

The flavors are outstanding, and it’s a highly polished food menu!

There are many other shops I’d like to introduce, but I’ll leave it at that.

Weren’t the unique and characterful food and drink booths at the summit quite intriguing?

Other booths

Of course, the highlights of Itadaki aren’t limited to the food and drink booths.

We will create a festival brought to life by a variety of booths.

Among them, a particularly distinctive boothLOVE FOR THE FUTUER

LOVE FOR THE FUTUER

One of Itadaki’s distinguishing features is that we carry out our activities with the wish that our own future, our children’s future, the Earth’s future—many different futures—will be filled with love.

We express love in various ways, such as through a thorough commitment to eco-friendliness and Tohoku charity efforts.

That booth sells a variety of summit-themed goods and eco-friendly items.

They sell many products, including handmade acrylic scrubbers crafted by the aunties of Yamada Town in Iwate Prefecture, as well as tote bags and T-shirts, and they donate the proceeds to support Tohoku.

acrylic scrubberTop Goods

In addition to merchandise sales, they also collect used oil, which is then converted directly into electricity for the festival through biodiesel power generation.

Used oil collection at Itadaki

It’s so thorough that I can confidently say there isn’t another festival anywhere in Japan that’s this eco-friendly and overflowing with love.

And I believe it is precisely that thoroughness that explains why Itadaki is loved by so many people.

Finale

And then, as we reach the pinnacle and the finale, the fun two days come to an end.

Summit Finale

The summit concludes with a performance by the Shibusashirazu Orchestra on the final stage.

By this point, we start tidying up and getting ready to leave as much as possible.

For anything we absolutely can’t take home, we’ll use it the next day as well and then fully clear everything out.

The day after the final day

Tidying up the summit

The stage has already been completely taken down, and it leaves me with an indescribable feeling—somewhere between a touch of loneliness and a bit of relief.

That said, we have a teardown time to stick to, so we need to hurry.

Tidying up the summit

This concludes the event.

Afterword

summitThe summit is, for me, a place of business, a place of learning, and also a playground.

I feel truly happy that I can support such an important place for me from behind the scenes.

I honestly think it’s no exaggeration to call Itadaki a true “festival of love.”summitThat love must be reaching many people through the connections of music.

And I hope that by reading this article, even more people will take an interest in Itadaki and choose to participate.

That includes participation not only as a customer but also as a staff member.

Every year, Itadaki recruits volunteer staff, and anyone can participate as a staff member.Summit StaffOf course, I think we can participate not only at Itadaki but also in other festivals as well.

How about taking part in the festival not only from the perspective of watching, but also from other viewpoints?

Many festivals will continue to begin and come to an end.

I sincerely hope all of you will enjoy yourselves to the fullest and lead a wonderful life filled with music.summit

Thank you for reading this far.
