Hamamatsu Jazz WeekOct 18 (Sat) – 26 (Sun), Shizuoka Prefecture

During the eight days of Hamamatsu Jazz Week, nine jazz-related events are held. Among them, the YAMAHA Jazz Festival on the final day is renowned for its originality among Japan’s many jazz festivals. Under the theme “Unique Encounters Found Only Here,” a wide variety of stages have been presented over the years, and this year as well you can look forward to collaborations between promising up-and-coming musicians and seasoned veterans.

Yokkaichi Jazz FestivalSat 10/18 – Sun 10/19, Mie Prefecture

The Yokkaichi Jazz Festival operates under the concept of “creating a lively city through jazz and other diverse music,” with stages set up throughout the town. The event is mainly run by volunteer staff, and they are currently recruiting volunteers. If you’re interested, why not apply?

STREET JAZZ SHIZUOKAFri 8/29–Sat 8/30, Shizuoka Prefecture

Street Jazz is swinging big again this year! At STREET JAZZ SHIZUOKA, the jazz festival held in Aoba Park, you can enjoy high-quality performances by a variety of veteran jazz artists. There will also be many food stalls at the venue. Plus, this time we’re taking over the intersection in front of Shidax on Koganecho, so you can enjoy live jazz right in the heart of the city.

GRANSHIP Big Band Jazz FestivalSun, Aug 10 — Shizuoka Prefecture

This is a jazz festival held at Granship, the convention center in Shizuoka Prefecture! Large big bands from across the prefecture will gather in force, filling the hall with colorful sounds. There’s hardly any other event where you can enjoy so much tightly coordinated, powerful jazz in a single day. On the day of the event, there will also be a corner where you can try out instruments used in jazz, making it a fun outing for families as well.

Hida Takayama Jazz FestivalGifu Prefecture, Sat 7/19–Sun 7/20

This is a jazz festival held in Hida-Takayama, famous for its gassho-style houses. Jazz was originally created by Black musicians, but it has come to be enjoyed around the world and has evolved continually over many years. In much the same way, Hida-Takayama has become a place that attracts people from all over the globe and continues to evolve day by day. This event is imbued with the hope that, despite these changes, it will not lose what lies at its core.
