Nangō Summer Jazz FestivalSat, 7/26 Aomori Prefecture

Nango Summer Jazz Festival. Not only can you enjoy performances by many artists, but Nango, where the event is held, is also a famous tourist destination, and it offers local specialties such as Nango soba and blueberries. It seems you can camp at the venue from the night of the event until the next morning, so it would be nice to enjoy the jazz festival for a full day, stay overnight, and spend the second day sightseeing in Nango.

Montreux Jazz Festival in NotoSat, 7/26 Ishikawa Prefecture

The Monterey Jazz Festival in Noto began in 1989 as a friendship initiative through jazz by the City of Monterey in the United States and the Wakura Onsen Tourism Association of Nanao City. Due to this history, the program features performances by a U.S. all-star jazz orchestra as well as by Japanese junior high school big bands.

PARK JAZZ LIVEHokkaido, Sat 7/19–Sun 7/20

A uniquely Hokkaido event that fuses live music with Hokkaido cuisine. Over the course of a month, live performances are held in the Sapporo Music Tent that appears in Odori Park and at multiple venues throughout Sapporo. The tent is set up like a restaurant, providing a relaxed space where you can sit down, enjoy a meal, and take in the live music.

Hida Takayama Jazz FestivalGifu Prefecture, Sat 7/19–Sun 7/20

This is a jazz festival held in Hida-Takayama, famous for its gassho-style houses. Jazz was originally created by Black musicians, but it has come to be enjoyed around the world and has evolved continually over many years. In much the same way, Hida-Takayama has become a place that attracts people from all over the globe and continues to evolve day by day. This event is imbued with the hope that, despite these changes, it will not lose what lies at its core.

Sakura Django Reinhardt FestivalSat 7/12 – Sun 7/13, Tochigi Prefecture

Osaka Big Band Jazz FestivalSat 6/21–Sun 6/22, Osaka Prefecture

The Osaka Big Band Jazz Festival was launched to energize Japan starting from Osaka by boosting the entertainment scene. There are various theories, but Osaka is said to be the birthplace of jazz in Japan, and many jazz musicians and bands from here have gone on to perform around the world. With high-caliber performers, the lineup offers not only orchestral performances and vocals but also engaging talk segments, making it well worth the trip to Osaka for a memorable time!
