[For Men] Songs to Get Better at Singing: Practice Tracks for Improving at Karaoke
Last updated:

What are the conditions for becoming a better singer?

Of course, taking proper vocal training lessons to learn correct vocal production and turning your body into a “well-resonating instrument” is both fundamental and the most important point.

But after acquiring those “foundational singing techniques,” it’s also crucial to choose songs that match your level and goals, actually sing them, and build your expressive abilities through real-world practice.

In this feature, we’ve selected recommended practice songs for men who want to improve their singing.

For each song, we explain key points to watch out for when singing it and why we chose it.

Please use this article to suit your own aims.

Songs to Improve Your Singing for Men: Practice Tracks for Getting Better at Karaoke (1–10)

W/X/YNEW!Tani Yuuki

W/X/Y – Tani Yuuki (Official Lyric Video)
W/X/YNEW!Tani Yuuki

W/X/Y, released in May 2021.

It’s a signature song by Tani Yuuki! It’s a recommended love song for those who want to practice falsetto naturally and without strain, and it makes it easy to move from chest voice → mixed voice → falsetto.

I’ve taught it a few times myself, but the melody line was more difficult than I expected… I recommend memorizing it well before singing.

In particular, the B-melody has a line that clearly sounds like falsetto even just by listening! In general, Tani Yuuki has a gentle vocal quality, so his singing has an airy, open feel.

To start, try imitating that: take a solid breath and sing with a gentle tone.

Since falsetto uses a lot of air, the key point is to “take in plenty of breath.”

It seems this was the set piece for the 2011 (78th) NHK All-Japan School Music Competition, Junior High Division! The vocal range is quite wide, from A2 to C5.

The falsetto parts appear in the chorus.

The melody line is easy to follow, building nicely through a verse (A), pre-chorus (B), chorus, and final chorus.

First, the A section sits quite low, so be careful not to overuse your throat there.

If you watch choirs or singers’ facial expressions, you’ll notice their eyebrows and facial muscles are lifted quite a bit.

Simply lifting your facial muscles like this helps open the throat and makes singing a bit easier.

It also helps you transition smoothly from chest voice to falsetto.

In addition, make sure to fully support and release your breath on the high falsetto notes.

Aiming your voice straight up toward the top of your head makes falsetto easier to produce.

With just a small shift in awareness, the song becomes much easier to sing—give it a try!

Fu re te Fu re ruNEW!TK from Ling tosite sigure

The B-side to “unravel,” which could be called TK’s signature song, is actually “Fu re te Fu re ru.” It explodes even more with high notes and falsetto than “unravel,” and it’s one of my absolute favorites to sing at karaoke.

Rather than a clean falsetto, TK’s falsetto pierces like a cry, so unless you can normally hit high notes, it’s a tough song to pull off… That said, it’s a super cool track, so if you think of it as a way to practice falsetto, I definitely recommend it for rock lovers! It’s fine to start with a weak falsetto.

Just keep practicing using a lot of breath over and over, and gradually build your explosiveness—that’s the idea!

Mirror feat. Kousuke Saito NEW! Leo Ieiri

It was released for streaming on October 8, 2025, and was written as the theme song for the NTV Wednesday drama “ESCAPE: It Was Supposed to Be a Kidnapping.” It’s a collaboration between Leo Ieiri and Kosuke Saito, the guitarist-vocalist of UNISON SQUARE GARDEN and TenTwenty.

Despite the very high vocal range, both of their voices soar in the same register, and the result is truly beautiful.

It’s wonderful as a solo, of course, but if possible you’ll want to sing it as a male-female duet! That said, finding a man who can sing this high is no easy task.

When you sing it, try to focus on using your breath and producing a strong tone.

If you aim to resonate in your head while you phonate, you’ll gradually get closer to the right sound.

Core strength matters, too!

Official HIGE DANDism is a hugely popular band.

Their songs go over extremely well at karaoke, so I imagine many people want to add their tracks to their repertoire.

In that case, I recommend Same Blue.

It’s a song where the high notes stand out, but it doesn’t demand an impossibly wide range.

If you produce a solid, resonant tone in the high sections, you’ll sound at least somewhat professional.

For those looking to build endurance and polish in their high register, it should make a great practice piece.

Three-Penny Novel NEW! King Gnu

This is a song that keeps showcasing Iguchi’s beautiful high tones.

It’s a 2020 track used as the theme song for the NTV drama “A 35-Year-Old Girl.” Speaking of King Gnu, it’s a band where Tsuneta’s unique world and Iguchi’s high tones beautifully match.

There may not be many people who can sing it in the original key, but since our theme this time is falsetto, it’s meaningful to sing it in the original key! When you sing, instead of pushing your voice, imagine letting the breath flow and resonating in your head.

The melody line has stair-like parts that might be difficult, but once you can produce a stable falsetto, it’s actually easier to keep pitch than singing in chest voice.

That said, core strength is important too, so keep your lower abdomen engaged to prevent your body from wobbling.

It helps to sing with a sense of quick, explosive support—like “huh, huh”—to build that snap.

About meNEW!Mrs. GREEN APPLE

Mrs.

GREEN APPLE is known for their falsetto and mixed voice.

A song that perfectly fits this theme is definitely “Bokuno Koto”! It was chosen as the support song for the 97th All Japan High School Soccer Tournament.

When you sing it, if you switch between parts sung entirely in falsetto and parts delivered powerfully with mixed voice, you’ll add impact and really impress those around you.

One thing to watch out for when switching vocal qualities is that if you change the place where you produce the sound, your balance will suffer and the transitions between chest voice and falsetto won’t be smooth.

Keep focusing on producing the sound from the vocal folds at all times.

The impression of your voice changes depending on whether you project it forward from the vocal folds or direct it backward.

Try different approaches, and when you sing while sending your voice in the direction that feels easiest for you, you’ll be able to produce both falsetto and mixed voice comfortably!
