The Appeal of the Summer and Rock Festival “MASTER COLISEUM”
MASTER COLISEUM is a summer rock festival held annually in Osaka, affectionately known as “Masukoro.” It is hosted by two rock bands active mainly in their hometown of Osaka, PAN and SABOTEN.
Here, we’ll share the appeal of this beloved festival.
What is MASTER COLISEUM?
MASTER COLISEUM is an outdoor rock festival held every year since 2006 at the Osaka-jo Open-Air Music Hall.
The bands hosting this festival are PAN and SABOTEN, both from Osaka.
Band-hosted festivals have a unique atmosphere like this, and I imagine many fans look forward to them.
At Muscolo, which in some years since 2012 has been held over two days, you can catch both PAN and SABOTEN on each day. And at the end, you can enjoy the essence of a band-hosted festival, with PAN and SABOTEN collaborating and that day's performers sometimes jumping in for surprise appearances.
The Appeal of MASTER COLISEUM
Here, I’d like to pick out three of the many appealing features of Masukoro and share them with you.
There is a standing area.
First, one of the key attractions is that there is a standing area.
You might think, “Well, that’s only natural for an outdoor festival!!” but Mass Colo takes place at the Osaka Castle Open-Air Concert Hall.
Because seats are permanently installed, there often isn’t a standing area even when other live events are held.
However, at Masukoro, the space between the stage and the front-row seats is open as a standing area, allowing you to enjoy the atmosphere of a live house.
Of course, dangerous behavior like moshing or stage diving is prohibited, but you can still enjoy the live show with your whole body to the fullest.
Of course, you can also relax and enjoy yourself at a seated table while savoring food and drinks.

Another appeal of Masukoro is its very reasonable ticket prices.
Not just for an outdoor festival—the ticket price is exceptionally reasonable even by regular concert standards.

PAN
First up is PAN, a four-piece rock band from Osaka.

SABOTEN
SABOTEN, a three-piece band from Osaka co-hosting this mass-coro with PAN.
Kiyoshi, the vocal guitarist, runs a music studio called GREEN STUDIO in Osaka’s Amerikamura (Amemura) and energizes Osaka’s music scene not only on stage but also behind the scenes.
Their songs are characterized by the appeal of bright, catchy melodies typical of melodic hardcore and gentle, uplifting lyrics.
