GFBIbaraki Prefecture, Sat 7/19 – Sun 7/20

GFB stands for Goose Fresh Beat, and since Goose Fresh is a playful misspelling of “goosebumps,” it’s a music festival curated around the concept of a band that gives you goosebumps. It’s held on Mount Tsukuba, offering a festival where you can enjoy music surrounded by nature. The local love really shows, for example, in the special Ibaraki discount available on tickets.

JOIN ALIVEHokkaido, Sat 7/19–Sun 7/20

JOIN ALIVE has been held every year since 2010 at Iwamizawa Park, which features an open-air music hall and the Hokkaido Greenland amusement park. You sometimes hear about music festivals held at amusement parks, but a unique feature of JOIN ALIVE is that you can actually enjoy the rides there as well. This means families can attend without younger children getting bored. Admission is also free for junior high school students and younger, so this event may inspire many children to fall in love with music.

GO OUT CAMP InawashiroFri 7/18–Sun 7/20, Fukushima Prefecture

It’s one of Japan’s largest camping festivals, organized by the magazine GO OUT. The event has expanded to venues across the country, including Fumotoppara in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, and Tenjin-hama Auto Campsite in Inawashiro, Fukushima. It features stylish camp sites, live performances by a variety of artists, booths from outdoor brands, and a full lineup of outdoor activities and fun.

GANKE FESSat, 7/5 Hokkaido

earth garden “Summer”Fri 7/4–Sun 7/6, Tokyo

Organized by the web magazine “earth garden,” this event is a community festival themed around an “organic and ecological lifestyle,” featuring not only live performances but also talk sessions, eco-organic shops, and food and drink booths lined up together. Although earth garden originally operated as an event production office, it gradually began running media as well, approaching outdoor festival management as a form of media operation. This edition is the third of four annual events—the summer installment.
