When I attended my first music festival as a freshman in college, I was captivated by its charm—“I can’t believe there’s a place this free and this fun.” I share information about wonderful music festivals every day to help grow the community of festival fans.

I’ve put together a roundup of music events taking place in July, including outdoor rock festivals, circuit-style fests, and jazz street events.

This year is packed with exciting summer festivals and events!

PARK JAZZ LIVEHokkaido, Sat 7/19–Sun 7/20

A uniquely Hokkaido event that fuses live music with Hokkaido cuisine. Over the course of a month, live performances are held in the Sapporo Music Tent that appears in Odori Park and at multiple venues throughout Sapporo. The tent is set up like a restaurant, providing a relaxed space where you can sit down, enjoy a meal, and take in the live music.

KESEN ROCK FESTIVALIwate Prefecture, Sat 7/19 – Sun 7/20

This event, held since 2009 under the name KESEN ROCK, wasn’t started by band members or event promoters but by ordinary people. It’s said to be “an event entirely handmade without even knowing what a rock festival is,” and, D.

It’s an event brimming with the spirit of Y.

Tokyo Tango FestivalTokyo, Sat 7/19–Mon 7/21
