Located south of Hokkaido, the Donan region—comprising 18 cities, towns, and villages—is a captivating area blessed with majestic nature, seasonal scenic beauty, an abundance of fresh delicacies from the mountains and the sea, and a rich history as the birthplace of Hokkaido.

However, in recent years it has faced many issues, such as a declining birthrate and aging population and the outflow of people to urban areas. In particular, the exodus of young people from their hometowns has been remarkable: after moving to Tokyo for higher education or employment, they either do not return or cannot return even if they wish to, due to reasons such as a lack of jobs.

With the desire to contribute, however modestly, to revitalizing Southern Hokkaido, we devised a plan to “invigorate Southern Hokkaido through a rock festival,” leading to the formation of the Southern Hokkaido Rock Festival Executive Committee.

The Southern Hokkaido Rock Festival Executive Committee is active for the following purposes.

1. Revitalize the southern Hokkaido economy by attracting visitors through hosting a rock festival.
2. Let everyone living in Southern Hokkaido enjoy music through a rock festival.
3. Make the rock festival a reason for young people to return to their hometown even if they leave Southern Hokkaido in the future.
4. Revitalize the economy and create new jobs through rock festivals
