When I attended my first music festival as a freshman in college, I was captivated by its charm—“I can’t believe there’s a place this free and this fun.” I share information about wonderful music festivals every day to help grow the community of festival fans.

Quantum

Quantum Festival is a next-generation event that bills itself as a “direct-democratic outdoor music fest.” Bearing a name that means “quantum,” this event undertakes new experiments each year with society’s structure as its theme. In 2016 the theme was energy, in 2017 it was basic income, and in 2018 the focus is politics—with the radical twist that participants themselves run the event. Perhaps nothing shakes the very foundations of what a music festival can be more than this avant-garde approach.
