THICK FESTIVALSun, Jan 4 — Kanagawa Prefecture

A festival hosted by the three-piece melodic punk band SECRET 7 LINE will be held. In 2016, there was a great sorrow for them and for us fans, but seeing them overcome it and continue to perform is truly moving. Live-show kids, be sure to check it out.

Tama Music FestivalSat, Jan 17 — Kanagawa Prefecture

The cozy, community-driven music festival created by Tama Ward residents began in 2011. It’s held to provide a stage for artists active around Tama Ward and to boost local vitality and交流 through music. Participating artists cover a wide range of genres—jazz, brass band, dance, rock, pop—offering programs that people of all ages can enjoy. It’s a wonderful environment where local children can grow up familiar with music and have the chance to perform on stage. We hope you’ll join with your family!

DEAD POP FESTiVAL, which has been held since 2010 under the slogan “Break the Wall,” has firmly established itself as an outdoor event and joined the ranks of summer open-air festivals. Iwate Prefecture

College of RockSun, 12/14 – Iwate Prefecture

College of Rock is a music event held twice a year—in summer and winter—in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. As the name suggests, it’s a festival planned and run mainly by college students and other young people. In summer, it takes place on an outdoor stage set up at the Ishigami-no-Oka Museum, and in winter, it’s hosted across multiple live houses in central Morioka, featuring many young bands. There also appears to be an open application process, so if you’re in a band in the Tohoku region, why not give it a try and enter?
