SUKIYAKI MEETS THE WORLDAug 22 (Fri)–24 (Sun), Toyama Prefecture

Sukiyaki Meets the World is an event that has been held since 1991 and is Japan’s largest world music festival. In addition to enjoying world music performed by professional musicians, there are a variety of workshops, making it a citizen-participation event. It’s a great opportunity to fully enjoy world music that you might not usually encounter.

EARTH CELEBRATIONAug 22 (Fri)–24 (Sun), Niigata Prefecture

Our concept is to explore what truly matters today through the wisdom and skills for living in harmony with nature, and the culture and performing arts that arise from them. The festival functions as a new community rooted in the local area. It is a new Earth Celebration where people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and nationalities meet and connect. Of course, Kodo is also a member of this community, taking part in more varied ways than ever—through Kodo Village concerts, EC Theater, fringe events, workshops, and Sado experience programs.

SAWAGI FESTIVALFri 8/22 – Sun 8/24, Yamanashi Prefecture

A techno festival held at the private campsite THE SOUTHERN PENINSULA. An outdoor festival hosted at a lush, high-end campsite in Minami-Izu. The luxurious headliner is Shlømo.

Welcoming AWB and PVNV, Ken Ishii, A.

It’s a danceable event featuring a star-studded lineup including Mochi (Figure) and ami.

Ryukyu FestivalSat, Aug 23, Tokyo Metropolis

This is a festival where you can fully experience Okinawa while in Tokyo—the Ryukyu Festival. It’s held every year, featuring live performances by a variety of musicians themed around Ryukyu. Numerous Ryukyu-themed food and drink vendors also take part, earning it a reputation as a way to ‘take a trip’ without leaving the city. If you love Okinawan culture, be sure to check it out.
