We’re putting together a playlist featuring the exciting lineup for Japan’s premier summer festival, SUMMER SONIC 2016!

SUMMER SONIC 2016 Performing Artists (31–40)

Wall WatcherSunflower Bean

Sunflower Bean is a three-piece band from the United States.

Julia Cumming, the vocalist and bassist, drew attention in 2015 when she was selected as a model for SAINT LAURENT.

Her clear, translucent voice shines through beautifully amid their sound, which carries the scent of traditional punk.

ChocolateThe 1975

ChocolateThe 1975

The 1975 are a four-piece rock band from the UK.

Known for their bright, pop-leaning songs, they’re appearing at Summer Sonic.

I think they’re a very accessible and approachable band.

That said, their lyrics can be a bit edgy—featuring references that poke fun at things like marijuana and the police—so there’s more to them than just pop.

Their live shows are cool too, and it’s made me want to see them in person.

All I WantThe Offspring

All I WantThe Offspring

The Offspring is an American punk rock band and a superstar group with over 30 years under their belt.

Many of you have probably heard this song with its memorable chant of “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!” It has a sense of exhilaration and is an extremely pleasant track to listen to.

The EdgeTonight Alive

Tonight Alive is an Australian punk band that also came to Japan for the spring event Punk Spring.

The sole female member, vocalist Jenna, really stands out with her voice.

This song was used in the film The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

I can TalkTwo Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club is a three-piece band from the UK.

They have many songs with four-on-the-floor kick drums, making them a band that’s fun to listen to, dance to, and see live.

Their other tracks are also moderately poppy and easy to listen to.

We can expect their show at Summer Sonic to be a lot of fun, too.

Born SlippyUnderworld

Underworld – Born Slippy (Nuxx)
Born SlippyUnderworld

Underworld is a British electronic music duo.

This track begins with a dreamy atmosphere, but partway through a satisfying four-on-the-floor kick drum comes pounding in.

Be sure to dance at Summer Sonic as if you were in a club.

Say It Ain’t SoWeezer

Weezer – Say It Ain’t So (Live on the Honda Stage at the iHeart Radio Theater in LA)
Say It Ain’t SoWeezer

Weezer, often described as “crybaby rock” for their emotional songs, is a four-piece rock band from the United States.

This track also has a lyrical atmosphere that stirs the emotions.

I’ve heard that the vocalist, Rivers, is a Japanophile, and the Kumamon sticker on his guitar is just adorable.
