He also sang an original song for the animated film Curious George, for which Johnson did the music, but his debut single was Cold December.
It’s an acoustic, pop-tinged number.
New York, New YorkRyan Adams

Ryan Adams, the former frontman of the alt-rock band Whiskeytown.
It’s said he even had run-ins with audience members because his name sounds similar to Bryan Adams.
This debut track is a number influenced by rap.
Incidentally, the music video features Manhattan just before the 9/11 attacks.
Sad SongsMatt Nathanson

Matt Nathanson is a singer-songwriter from Massachusetts.
Although the songs released from his major-label debut album, including this debut single, did not make the charts, “Come On Get Higher” from his second album, Some Mad Hope, became a hit.
Twenty TomorrowBen Rector

Like Mat Kearney, Ben Rector is a singer-songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee.
This song is the title track from his debut album.
It features a pop sound with a piano-and-vocals style.
AmazingJosh Kelley

Josh Kelley may be better known as the husband of Katherine Heigl—the star of the popular drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” well-known in Japan—than as a singer-songwriter.
His songs “Amazing” and “Only You” have both been hits on the adult charts.
HustlinRick Ross

Rapper Rick Ross, who has drawn attention with most of his released albums debuting at number one on the charts.
His stage name is taken from a real-life, well-known drug dealer, and this debut track is also about him.
As is often the case with rappers, he was arrested in 2015 on charges of kidnapping and assault.
Gotta Make ItTrey Songz

With the hit “Can’t Help but Wait,” Trey Songz joined the ranks of top artists.
“Gotta Make It” is a single from his debut album.
It didn’t chart, but it’s a lavish tune featuring Aretha Franklin on the chorus.
