A classic of Mexican hip hop and Chicano rap
Chicano rap—rap by Mexican Americans.
It’s often misunderstood as “Spanish-language hip-hop = Chicano rap,” but as long as the artist is Mexican American, it counts as Chicano rap even if they’re rapping in English.
What really defines Chicano rap is its old-school vibe that pays homage to oldies.
Its refusal to chase trends is a big part of Chicano rap’s appeal.
This time, we’ve picked out some classic Chicano rap tracks!

Mexican hip hop, classic Chicano rap tracks (21–30)
Dodger BlueBrownside

This song is what you’d call a classic.
It’s a traditional gang-style track, yet the way it represents LA in places is fantastic.
I think its popularity comes from being a fully laid-back, dance-floor-friendly tune.
It’s a famous track.
A Chicano showing this much hometown pride is nothing short of cool.
Torpedo Roll CallHi Power Torpedos

They’re a crew with a distinctive group vibe.
I think it’s pretty rare to find a Chicano rapper whose synth-heavy sound stays engaging without getting repetitive.
The content is also notable—very straightforward, turning incidents close to home, like their own deals and day-to-day happenings, into rap.
Mi BanderaSoxi

Rapping powerfully in Spanish, he projects strength and clearly conveys that he’s the best.
It’s also surprising that he’s still in his twenties.
He’s a very famous rapper in the Midwest.
I think one of their hallmarks is being able to rap in Spanish with such intensity.
Summertime AgainMr. Criminal

Hi Power Entertainment, the Chicano label that built the scene and defined an era.
Mr.
Criminal, the label’s flagship producer, cranked out hits, and his influence reached rappers and hip-hop artists in the mainstream.
This track is also one of his relatively early fan favorites.
A mellow number that evokes a Mexican sunset—you can picture the local heads hitting the gas in their lowriders with this as the soundtrack.
Gang SignsSad Boy

The part where they keep hitting rhymes in Spanish is highly distinctive.
And by mixing in English, the song demonstrates an exquisite balance, which I think is excellent.
The chorus is also easy to listen to and remember, which I believe is another hallmark of this track.
It’s a very serious song.
Baby AngelsMs Krazie

All the female rappers in the Chicano scene have thin, shaved eyebrows, don’t they? This is mellow hip-hop too, but when a woman performs it, it takes on a different vibe.
There’s something nostalgic about it, and you hardly hear this kind of sound anymore.
It’s a bit of a shame, but that’s the nature of trends.
Artists can’t stay in one place.
It’s an emotional track that makes you want to say, “Those were the days.”
West CoastTriple Entray

At last, even Chicanos have reached this level—rap that’s so skillful, smooth, and flawless that there’s nothing to nitpick, all packed into a single track.
There’s a uniquely Chicano vibe here that we haven’t heard before, and it’s an excellent song.
He’s almost too good at rapping for a Chicano.
That’s exactly why I think he’s an artist to watch going forward.
