Classic friendship songs from commercials (41–50)
Someone more important than a friendAyame Goriki

Speaking of Ayame Gouriki, you think of the Lunch Pack commercials, right? Judging by the song title, you might mistake it for a song about a lover, but it’s a wonderful friendship anthem.
It sings about a friend who’s more than just a “friend.” The dance she performs in the music video is impressively good, as you’d expect from someone with experience.
TOMORROWMayo Okamoto

It’s a famous song by Mayo Okamoto that everyone has heard.
The track itself was released in 2000, but it was only recently used in a commercial—for Y!mobile.
It’s an encouraging anthem that cheers up a hurt friend, featuring vivid depictions of real-life situations and straightforward lyrics that leave a strong impression.
Album of MemoriesKeiichi Sokabe BAND

A cover of a famous children’s song often sung at kindergarten and nursery school graduation ceremonies, it was used as the theme song for the Nissan Serena commercial.
Hearing it with a rather intense band arrangement and a husky vocal makes it sound completely different, but it’s really cool.
It brings back memories with friends.
Feeling refreshedChisato Moritaka

The 22nd single by Chisato Moritaka, released in 1994.
It’s a song about a beautiful friendship between women: even though the person she likes ends up getting along with her friend, she cheers them on.
It gained popularity after being used in an Asahi Beer commercial.
Later, actress Yumi Adachi covered it, changing part of the lyrics to say “cola” instead of beer.
Far, far awayNoriyuki Makihara

It’s a beloved classic by Noriyuki Makihara that was included on his 1992 album but wasn’t released as a single.
He self-covered the song in 2006, and that version was used in an NTT East Japan commercial featuring Yui Aragaki.
Promise of SunflowersMotohiro Hata

It’s Hata Motohiro’s moving CM song for NEXCO East Japan.
If you look at the lyrics alone, it’s a love song, but since it’s best known as the theme for “Stand By Me Doraemon,” it’s also a masterpiece that evokes a friendship like that between Doraemon and Nobita.
Cheer upMariya Takeuchi

In recent years, many people have covered this song, but although it’s famous as a Mariya Takeuchi track, it was originally sung by Hiroko Yakushimaru.
After Mariya Takeuchi, who wrote the song, recorded her own self-cover, it was used in a commercial for SEIKO’s Dolce & Exceline.
When you’re heartbroken, it would be wonderful to have a friend who could comfort you like this, wouldn’t it?
