Karaoke songs that make it easy for women to score high

Karaoke systems with scoring features have been getting more and more sophisticated lately, and an increasing number now evaluate vocal techniques like vibrato and scooping.

However, the largest part of the scoring criteria is still the accuracy of melody and rhythm.

In this feature, we focus on those criteria and have compiled a selection of songs that are easy to sing and likely to score high, especially ones where it’s easy to follow the melody and rhythm.

When karaoke has a scoring function, you can’t help but want to go for a high score, whether you’re confident in your singing or not.

For each song, we’ve also included tips on how to earn a high score, so be sure to use them as a reference and aim for your best.

That said, the most important thing is to forget about the numbers and just sing freely and have fun the way you like!

A-line JUJU

JUJU is a female singer-songwriter who has gained popularity for her mature-sounding vocals.

While she has released many jazz-based tracks, she has recently put out songs inspired by Japanese kayōkyoku as well.

Among them, the one I particularly recommend is Issen (The Line).

Influenced by kayōkyoku, this song features classic Japanese melodies throughout.

Because the melodies are so familiar, you’re unlikely to go off-pitch.

It’s also a song where it’s easy to score extra points with vibrato, so definitely give it a try.

HitotsuboshiKOH⁺

KOH⁺ “One-star” (Inspire Movie for the film Silent Parade)
Hitotsuboshi KOH⁺

The song is included on KOH+, the musical duo of Kou Shibasaki and Masaharu Fukuyama, mini-album “Hitotsuboshi ~Galileo Collection 2007–2022~,” released in September 2022.

It also serves as the theme song for the film Galileo: Silent Parade.

The piece was reportedly written as a requiem for characters in the movie, and it features a somewhat melancholy melody that leaves a strong impression.

As for singing this song at karaoke, the vocal melody doesn’t contain any particularly difficult sections, so most people should be able to sing it casually without much trouble.

In the latter half of the song—specifically the so-called D-melody part that begins after the end of the second chorus—there are a few higher notes that require falsetto, so practice switching registers smoothly.

Since it’s a relatively slow-tempo track with a heavy beat, make sure to feel the accents on beats 2 and 4 and be careful not to rush the vocal rhythm.

When you produce your voice, try to place it as if it’s hitting your lower jaw inside your mouth and make effective use of chest resonance; this should give your singing more power, so give it a try!

MoonPerfume

[Official Music Video] Perfume 「Moon」
MoonPerfume

This is Perfume’s 28th single, released in September 2023.

It was selected as the theme song for Fuji TV’s Wednesday drama “Barakamon.” The vocal melody is very simple and the range used isn’t wide at all, so if you choose this song at karaoke and aim for a high score, the most important thing is to focus on singing while maintaining precise rhythm and beat.

Try singing while clearly feeling the accents of the so-called four-on-the-floor beat.

AmbivalentUru

Ambivalent Uru

Uru is a female singer-songwriter known for her slightly husky voice.

Her music, centered on orthodox J-pop, has been popular and consistently supported since 2013.

Among her works, the song “Ambivalent” is especially recommended if you’re aiming for a high score.

Although its range is somewhat wide and might seem challenging, the song is sung throughout in a whispery tone, making it easier to sing than it sounds.

Since it doesn’t demand powerful vocals, it’s a must-check for anyone who feels uncertain about breath control and the like.

walk walkyonige

walk walkyonige

The two-woman rock band yonige.

Unlike typical all-girl bands, they keep a gritty, no-nonsense style that’s earned strong support from core rock fans.

Among their songs, the one I especially recommend to women aiming for high karaoke scores is “walk walk.” The track is structured with verses (A and B) sung in the low-to-mid range, a slightly higher-pitched chorus, and a low-range bridge (C section).

You might feel uneasy about the higher notes in the chorus, but since it calls for a relaxed falsetto rather than a strained one, you can definitely aim for a high score as long as you keep your pitch steady.

Aimyon – First Love Is Crying [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO]
My First Love Is Crying Aimyon

Released on June 8, 2022, this is Aimyon’s 13th single, chosen as the theme song for Fuji TV’s Monday 10 p.

m.

drama “What Do You Do at the End of Love?” Aimyon’s simple, straightforward vocals resonate beautifully over a minimally arranged backing track.

In line with the song’s “simplicity,” the vocal melody and rhythmic phrasing are very straightforward, making it relatively easy for non-professionals to aim for high scores at karaoke.

There are some slightly high notes in the chorus, so if you’re going for a top score, be mindful of the key settings on the karaoke machine!

death anniversaryCHANMINA

Chanmina – Memorial Day (Official Music Video) –
Memorial Day, Chanmina

This is rapper Chanmina’s 17th digital-only single, released in August 2023.

It was selected as the theme song for the TV Asahi Thursday drama “Hayabusa Shobodan,” based on the novel by Jun Ikeido.

You can fully enjoy Chanmina’s powerful vocals with a bit of a gritty edge.

That said, the vocal melody itself doesn’t use a very wide range, and there aren’t any particularly complex or difficult parts to sing, so I feel many people will find it easier to aim for a high karaoke score.

Listen closely to the original and try to recreate Chanmina’s slightly lingering, sultry delivery.

Letting the rhythm of your singing rush ahead is a strict no-no if you’re aiming for a high score!
