We’ve lined up plenty of catchy tracks, so be sure to check them out to the end!

[For women in their 50s] Songs that are easy to score high on at karaoke (1–10)

Cinderella Honeymoon Hiromi Iwasaki

Hiromi Iwasaki’s classic “Cinderella Honeymoon,” frequently used on variety shows and the like, was once treated almost like a comic song, but nowadays it can surely be called a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

The song’s easiest-to-sing point is, above all, the chorus.

While the highest notes appear in the pre-chorus, that high phrase only lasts about three to four seconds, and the chorus itself sits in the mid-to-lower range, making it a song that doesn’t depend on the singer’s vocal range.

IstanbulMayoyo Shōno

Mayoyo Shono’s biggest hit, “Tonde Istanbul.” It’s a piece marked by its airy, floating vocal quality.

The real charm lies in the high-pitched phrases of the chorus.

You might find this part difficult, but the falsetto there is actually in the lower range, so if you’re aiming for a high karaoke score, it’s best to adjust the key so you can sing it comfortably in a mixed voice.

Be careful not to lower the key too much, or the falsetto at the end of the chorus will become harder to reach.

The vocal line itself is very simple, so if you’re aiming for a high score, definitely consider adding it to your repertoire.

After her success as a member of Amin, Takako Okamura also flourished as a singer-songwriter.

She has an exceptionally clear voice and excels at simple vocals that make the most of her tone.

“Yume wo Akiramenaide” is one of her signature songs.

Its range is narrow and there’s not much vibrato, so simply staying on pitch is enough to aim for a high score.

While the scarcity of long tones makes it a bit harder to rack up bonus points with vibrato or falls, the pitch is undeniably easy to follow—so definitely consider adding it to your repertoire.

Detective StoryHiroko Yakushimaru

The classic film “Detective Story,” starring Hiroko Yakushimaru.

This piece was released as the movie’s theme song.

When it comes to Hiroko Yakushimaru’s vocals, her enveloping, gentle voice is distinctive, and this song showcases exactly that.

Overall, the vocal line has little fluctuation, and the range is kept relatively narrow.

It may feel slightly high, but you can handle that with key adjustment, so consider adding it to your repertoire.

younger boyCandies

Candies, an idol group that left behind many classic hits.

Known for their catchy songs, they have many pieces that are easy to sing.

Among them, the one I especially recommend is “Toshishita no Otokonoko” (Boy Younger Than Me).

While it sometimes features a slightly jazzy arrangement, most of the vocal entrances are on the beat, so it’s easy to grasp the rhythm.

The vocal range is narrow, making it easy to sing; however, be careful with the “shi” sound in the “to-shi-shi-ta” part near the end of the chorus, as it can be a bit difficult to pronounce.

If you keep practicing by holding a disposable chopstick in your mouth and projecting your voice broadly, your pronunciation of “i” and “shi” will become stronger—give it a try.

The Wind RisesSeiko Matsuda

Seiko Matsuda has many famous songs.

While “Kaze Tachinu” is a somewhat lesser-known track, it’s perfect for aiming for a high score at karaoke.

Its relaxed tempo and a vocal line without intricate pitch fluctuations are appealing; although the melody is relatively high, anyone can sing it easily with the right key adjustment.

If there’s one point to watch out for, it’s the pre-chorus (the B section).

Because it features a high phrase with a relatively wide upward pitch movement, you’ll need to consciously track the pitch carefully.

Lips, speak passionately of you — Machiko Watanabe

Machiko Watanabe is a female singer-songwriter who gained popularity for her powerful vocals.

She has left many classic songs, and among them, “Kuchibiru yo, Atsuku Kimi o Katare” is particularly easy to sing.

Because of her strong voice, it may sound difficult at first listen, but there aren’t many intricate pitch fluctuations.

However, there is a brief moment in the chorus where a falsetto appears.

Adjust the key so that you can either sing that part in chest voice or hit the falsetto in the most comfortable key for you.
