Sougen - Jazz MedleySogen

It’s a taishogoto ensemble! Taishogoto! Jazz on the koto—how thrilling! It evokes the early Showa era, when, for example, Hibari Misora sang jazz and Shizuko Kasagi performed ‘Tokyo Boogie-Woogie.

‘ It really brings that time to mind.

Everyone’s playing with such energy—it’s wonderful!

[Wind Ensemble] Standard Jazz Medley, arranged by Naohiro Iwai
[Wind Ensemble] Standard Jazz Medley — Naohiro Iwai

It’s a standard jazz medley performed by a wind ensemble.

So cool! My impression is that this is the kind of piece high schoolers would love to play.

From what I heard, it’s very impressive, powerful, and full of groove, but it didn’t strike me as having any extremely difficult sections—probably a testament to the arranger’s skill.

TJB-13-002 Mambo Medley [Tropical Jazz Big Band wind ensemble arrangement]
TJB-13-002 Mambo Medley / Tropical Jazz Big Band

Mambo is a respectable genre of jazz, and apparently this is a wind band version of Tropical Jazz Big Band’s arrangement.

“Tequila!” is great.

I wondered if there were really enough mambo tunes to make a medley, but I was surprised to find that most of the pieces were ones I’d actually heard before.

It’s a fun medley.

Big Band Jazz - Swing Jazz Medley by Mieko Hirota and Others

The footage is a bit old, but it has that classic, orthodox feel.

I love how it preserves that “good old” vibe without straying from a refined, traditional style.

The unexpectedly high quality of the backing orchestra is another big plus.

And it’s wonderful how everyone involved—the Japanese performers—executes it perfectly.

Malta hit-and-run MALTA

This is a hit medley by Malta, a leading jazz saxophonist.

No matter how many times I listen, the sound is sultry and soaring—truly wonderful.

His arrangements are lively yet full of depth, and I think they have a unique, captivating charm.

Gospel Jazz Medley ~ I Worship You Almighty God / Speak To My Heart / There Is None Like YouSimplicity Praise

It’s a gospel medley, but at the beginning a very beautiful melody flows, which gives a somewhat unexpected impression.

It’s an instrumental-only medley.

When I think of gospel, I can’t help but imagine powerful vocals, but this might work in its own way.
