Here, we’ve carefully selected top karaoke songs that are especially friendly and easy for middle schoolers to sing!

While including relatively new tracks, they’re all songs with familiar melodies and smaller pitch differences, so they should be easier to tackle.

Yurayura – Masaki Suda / KR lyrics
Yurayura Masaki Suda

While fast songs where you can’t quite keep up with the lyrics can sometimes be glossed over with sheer momentum, many people find them difficult.

On the other hand, this song, “Yurayura,” is perfect for those moments when a somber ballad doesn’t feel right either.

Written and composed by Masaki Suda, its lyrics—said to capture everyday trifles and scenes that caught his eye—feel relatable.

It’s also appealing in that you can sing it gently without forcing your voice, and its approachable, naturally unspooling delivery should make it easy to sing.

Ito, a collaboration between Masaki Suda and Huwie Ishizaki.

This song was chosen as the ending theme for the film of the same name and is one of Miyuki Nakajima’s signature pieces that deeply moves listeners.

In particular, Suda’s masculine vocals—ranging from rich mid-lows to beautiful highs—and Ishizaki’s gentle, warm voice amplify the song’s emotional impact.

With its simple melody, it’s easy to sing and approachable for karaoke.

Although originally performed by a woman, the vocal range isn’t very high, making it comfortable for both men and women to sing.

Homecomings – Garden of Light and Fish Dreams (Official Music Video)
Garden of Light and a Fish's Dream Homecomings

Homecomings is a four-piece band that has gained popularity for lyrics that capture the real emotions of young people and a catchy musical style.

Formed by four members who belonged to a university folk song club, the band features many memorable, folk-influenced lyrics.

Among Homecomings’ works, the one I especially recommend is “Hikari no Niwa to Sakana no Yume” (“Garden of Light and Fish’s Dream”).

It’s crafted in a classic J-pop style, and since there are no particularly high vocal parts, it’s easy to sing even for those who aren’t confident singers.

Karin, a place of emptiness.

Singer-songwriter Karin.

, known for her catchy lyrics that resonate with anyone and her straightforward, unpretentious musical style, has been gaining popularity especially among teenage girls.

Her song “A Place of Blankness” is one I particularly recommend to people who aren’t confident in their singing.

Although her vocal tone is fairly high and might seem challenging, anyone can sing it without trouble as long as they adjust it to their own key.

If you find it hard to sing, try lowering the key by 1–2 semitones.

You know, well, it's not like... NGT48

NGT48, the idol group currently in the spotlight.

They’re the fifth group to come out of the AKB48 family, and they’re experiencing a resurgence in popularity, especially among teens and people in their twenties.

Among NGT48’s songs, the one I especially want to recommend is “Well, I mean, not really…” It has that early-2010s idol-song vibe, characterized by a catchy vocal line.

With many easy-to-sing phrases and a narrow vocal range, it’s approachable even for those who aren’t confident in their singing.

Boy Anthem Sano Ibuki

Singer-songwriter Sano ibuki, who has been steadily gaining popularity since the late 2010s, openly cites Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson as influences.

While he’s said that, many of his songs are catchy, very singable J-pop numbers, so even people who aren’t confident singers will find several tracks easy to sing.

Among them, the one I especially recommend is Shonen Sanka (Hymn to Boyhood).

Although the song is on the slightly higher side, its rhythm is very easy to follow, and it’s a piece where even a light voice can deliver plenty of impact, making it approachable for those who aren’t strong singers.

Swallow YOASOBI

A grand story told from the perspective of a swallow.

YOASOBI’s song gently gives voice to the big dreams of small creatures.

Released in November 2022, this work is YOASOBI’s fifth song in English.

It was also broadcast in December as the monthly song on NHK Educational TV’s children’s SDGs program “Hirogare! Irotoridori.” It’s a perfect choice for middle schoolers who want to sing it at karaoke.

The melody is easy to remember, and the lyrics carry a deeply moving message.

Why not sing it with friends and enjoy a fun time together?
