It sings of wishing to be like the Jomon Sugi, a World Heritage–listed cedar.
Yakushima, though a small island, is rugged, mystical, and full of diverse qualities.
It feels like an island where the desire to be manly and dignified comes together.
I think I understand the feeling of wishing to be that way.

It’s a song released in 1954, and I’ve heard that bus guides often sang it back then.
Set at Nagasakibana, it expresses the sorrow of being unable to meet a loved one.
It’s depicted as beautifully as the view of Mount Kaimon.

Karashima, who is from Kagoshima City, and it says that even if it’s step by step, we should move forward on our own path.

I hear it’s also used in the Osumi Ekiden relay race.
