And finally, John Lennon’s “Imagine.” He’s also famous for having married Yoko Ono, who is Japanese.

It’s regrettable to think that if John had lived longer, he would have produced many more masterpieces, but even so, John and the Beatles—already full of classics—remain extremely popular today.

I Don't Want to Miss a ThingAerosmith

A famous song by the hard rock band Aerosmith.

This track was used in a Nissan Elgrand commercial.

As the theme song for the film Armageddon, it carries a grand, epic feel that matched the Elgrand’s large, luxurious image.

It brings me to tears as it reminds me of the movie’s ending!

As long as you love meBackstreet Boys

As Long as You Love Me Backstreet Boys

It feels like something from a British idol group, but the melody is beautiful, isn’t it? The lyrics say something like, “It doesn’t matter who she is or where she’s from—what matters is that you love me.” I wonder if there aren’t more people than you’d expect who want to express this kind of sentiment to someone they love.

What Beyoncé is singing about is her exasperation with the man she broke up with and her confident, empowered attitude—but that’s surely a feeling men can have toward women too.

If you’re single, hands up! Go all out, get sexy, and feel amazing! After all, she’s a celeb.

She turns heartbreak into a fun, upbeat song.

If you’re tired of listening to sad breakup tunes, definitely give it a listen.

A 1979 ballad that represents Billy Joel, the singer-songwriter from New York.

It’s a famous song that has been used in many commercials in Japan.

When I first heard it in a Sony commercial, the chorus melody was so wonderful that it stayed with me, and I couldn’t get it out of my head.

Stay With MeBobby Caldwell

It was the commercial song for the now-unseen cigarette ad, Parliament.

The singer was Bobby Caldwell, “Mr.

AOR.” Perhaps thanks in part to this commercial, he was extremely popular in Japan.

The ad featured flowing city nightscapes that matched the song perfectly, making it a cool commercial with a sophisticated, adult vibe.

Peter Cetera of Chicago also covered the song.

From the Carpenters, “I Won’t Last a Day Without You,” known in Japanese as “Ai wa Yume no Naka ni” (“Love Is in a Dream”).

Young people today may have at least heard the Carpenters’ name.

Karen’s deeply embracing voice and superb singing deserve recognition even now.

The song says, “I can’t imagine life without you,” and if Karen says that in her beautiful voice, it really makes you want to do your best.
