Masako Hirakawa (Vocalist: Mizuko Sakata Masako)

I’ve been playing electric bass for 40 years and upright bass for 35.

For about 25 years, I’ve been casually researching the differences between Japanese and overseas rhythms, and I incorporate that into my lessons.

I also began performing as a vocalist 15 years ago under the name “Masako Sakamizu.” I mainly play jazz using upright bass, but I also perform a wide range of music on electric bass, including pop and more.

The genres I usually listen to are all over the map: contemporary jazz, jazz vocals, pop, rock, Showa-era kayōkyoku, K-pop, and classical.

I’m a cat lover and hold a Level-1 certification as a Pet Animal Handling Manager.

I’m the mother of one girl and three cats.
