Beastie Boys Popular Songs Ranking [2025]

Beastie Boys is an American rap-rock group consisting of three members: Mike D, Ad-Rock, and MCA.

They were a one-of-a-kind presence, leading the times not only with music that fused hip-hop, punk, and even club music, but also with their fashion and outspoken attitudes.

Here, we present a ranking of their most popular songs.

So What Cha WantBeastie Boys8rank/position

It’s one of their popular tracks from the album “Check Your Head.” Industrial beats and raps that sound like they’re coming through a megaphone.

Add to that an electric guitar sample that grabs your ears and won’t let go, plus a chorus verse you can’t help but sing along to.

It’s a track packed with all the good stuff!

Futterman’s RuleBeastie Boys9rank/position

“Huh, Jimi Hendrix?” For a moment, that’s the impression you get from the fuzz guitar and wah guitar on this track.

The percussion rhythm that adds groove to the big beat is stylish, too.

As a listener, it’s a song that makes you nod your head on the big beats while your core feels like it’s keeping time at twice the pace.

The hip-hop group Beastie Boys.

From their album “Check Your Head,” here’s “Gratitude.” This classic has been loved across generations, featuring intense vocals over distorted guitar sounds.

The target of gratitude—the theme of the song—can be interpreted in various ways; it may be expressing thanks for the world or for freedom.

Give it a careful listen and see what you think.

This track also uses a big-name sample, and I’m not really sure how the royalty issues were handled back then.

Still, the thrill of “Oh, I know this sample!” was part of what made it fun to listen to.

Being a song from their first album, it feels young and full of energy.

The rhythm section of the bass and drums in this track is insanely cool! This is what groove is all about.

Then you’ve got the wah guitar on top.

None of the parts overstate themselves, but when those three are mixed together, you get an unbelievable track.

And I’m also impressed by how they make the phrase “Root Down,” which is the title, sound so stylish.

It’s an instrumental track, but it’s just incredibly cool.

The instrumentation is very simple, and the phrases each instrument plays are simple too, but you can really feel the attention to the tones.

The bass sounds so intimate you can almost hear the player’s breath, the drums have a pleasant room ambience, and the guitar has a slightly lo-fi, cheap-ish vibe.

It’s a track that’s truly satisfying to listen to!

The kick drum rhythm you hear in this track—there are a lot of hits, and it’s especially characteristic of the Beasties’ early songs, right? It’s a different groove from double bass drumming, and while it’s rare in vocal-driven music, you could say it became a basic foundation for the R&B that emerged in the 2000s.
