365-Day Paper Airplane AKB48

The song released by the national idol group AKB48 in December 2015 is “365 Nichi no Kamihikouki” (Paper Airplane of 365 Days).

Used as the theme song for the NHK morning drama series “Asa ga Kita,” it became a hit and is a gently encouraging tune.

Featuring a sound built on acoustic guitar and strings, it overturned AKB’s previous image.

Thanks to its relaxed tempo, it’s easy to sing even for children who aren’t confident singers.

Be sure to pick it the next time you go to karaoke with family or friends.

Yowanehaki, released in 2021 by the music project MAISONdes, features singer-songwriters Wanuka and asmi and became a viral hit on TikTok.

It’s characterized by clear, easy-to-remember phrases and a melody that even children who aren’t confident singers can easily try.

The key is to sing as if you’re speaking, rather than belting it out.

It’s a melodic song sprinkled with unique expressions.

Try singing along to the mid-tempo rhythm.

Puputs and Hm! The Kaiketsu DanceDaiki Ise

Butt Detective "Solve It with a Toot and a Hm!" Let's All Dance! version now available!
Puputsu and Hm! Kaiketsu Dance by Daiki Ise

The theme song of the anime Butt Detective, “Puputsu to Fumu tto Kaiketsu Dance,” is a great pick for karaoke.

Elementary school boys in particular will definitely want to sing it once they hear it.

That’s because the main character is, well, a butt, and the word comes up many times in the song.

It even includes a line that’s basically “I’m about to fart.” Sing it at karaoke with friends and it’s sure to get everyone hyped.

Since the lyrics go all-in on the gag, singing it in a cool, deadpan voice makes it even funnier.

Smile, covered and released by Nana Mori—who is also active as an actress—in 2020, became a hot topic when it was featured as the theme song for Otsuka Pharmaceutical’s Oronamin C commercial.

With its simple structure and easy melody, it’s perfect for elementary school beginners at karaoke! Practicing its easy-to-remember phrases will help build confidence in singing.

Have the adults and friends around join in with claps and chorus to liven things up.

It’s a heartwarming song that spreads children’s adorable smiles.

IcarusMotohiro Hata

Icarus Motohiro Hata

Singer-songwriter Motohiro Hata has remained a leading, popular figure from the 2000s to the present.

By the upper grades of elementary school, many students will likely have encountered his music.

Among Hata’s works, the song Ikaros is one I especially recommend.

Its melody is simple enough for elementary school students to sing, and the vocal range is relatively narrow, making it easy even for those who haven’t experienced voice changes yet.

The lyrics also have depth, so it’s a song I can recommend from an educational standpoint as well.

Anpanman is a character hugely popular with toddlers.

It’s so widespread that there might not be a child who doesn’t know him.

Surely today’s elementary school kids also grew up watching the anime “Let’s Go! Anpanman” when they were little.

So how about singing an Anpanman song for the first time in a while? Our recommendation is “Anpanman Taisou.” It’s one of the anime’s ending themes.

As a song from a toddler-oriented anime, it’s naturally easy to sing, and its gentle, encouraging lyrics still resonate in your heart even now that you’re older.

Opening ThemePAW Patrol

PAW Patrol – theme song (Japanese)
Opening Theme Paw Patrol

The opening theme of the preschool anime “PAW Patrol,” where the pups are the heroes, is also a great karaoke pick for elementary school kids.

The tempo is fast, but the best part is how you can really get into the groove and sing along.

Besides the lyrics, it even includes the pups’ names and some catchphrases, so there’s fun beyond just the singing.

Plus, the song is short, so it’s perfect when you want to keep turns moving quickly.

The lyrics are easy to memorize, too, so give it a try if you’d like!
