Introducing popular J-pop songs that start with “Ta”!

Have you heard of shiritori karaoke, where you connect songs by using the last letter of the previous song’s title? Surprisingly, it can get pretty exciting—sometimes you can’t think of any songs, or there aren’t as many singable ones as you expect.

So this time, I’ll introduce a bunch of Japanese songs that start with “ta.” I’ve picked popular J-POP tracks so you can use them both for karaoke and for playing shiritori using only song titles.

Please use this as a reference, and if there’s a song you’d like to try singing, go for it!

Introducing songs starting with 'Ta' from popular J-POP! (61–70)

Detective StoryHiroko Yakushimaru

The classic film “Detective Story,” starring Hiroko Yakushimaru.

This piece was released as the movie’s theme song.

When it comes to Hiroko Yakushimaru’s vocals, her enveloping, gentle voice is distinctive, and this song showcases exactly that.

Overall, the vocal line has little fluctuation, and the range is kept relatively narrow.

It may feel slightly high, but you can handle that with key adjustment, so consider adding it to your repertoire.

TAXIMami Suzuki

Seimi Suzuki is a female singer who captivated many listeners with her soulful vocals.

Her song “TAXI” is widely regarded as a masterpiece among her works.

While the melody hints at elements of Black music, it doesn’t employ techniques like melisma—the pop equivalent of the Japanese enka ‘kobushi’—so it’s relatively easy to sing.

However, the song does call for vocal richness, including strong overtones, so you should be mindful of that.

If you want to add more thickness to your tone, try singing with your lower jaw slightly pushed forward.

The Sun and the Desert RoseTOKIO

A rock number packed with TOKIO’s fiery spirit, which was also chosen as the theme song for the drama “The Magnificent Spy” starring Tomoya Nagase.

The song sings about the importance of staying true to your convictions no matter the adversity, like a flower blooming in the desert.

Its surging passion comes through directly via the powerful band sound and moving vocals.

Released in August 2009 as their 40th single, it was also performed at NHK’s Red and White Year-End Song Festival that same year.

When you’re facing a challenge and feel close to breaking, listening to this track will surely give you a push forward.

Formed by members from Kagoshima, GO!GO!7188 gained popularity for their unique sound that fuses surf rock with Showa-era pop.

Their major-label debut, released in June 2000, is a refreshing rock tune that’s perfect for summer drives! The sound—combining edgy guitar riffs with vocals that are cute yet powerful—is an undeniable killer track that will raise your spirits whether you like it or not.

The song’s worldview, which sings of a passionate love that insists on getting what you want through your own strength, is also truly captivating.

This classic is included on their first album, “Dasoku Hokō.”

I’ll end up fighting.Girl of Extreme Vulgarity

Gesu no Kiwami Otome “I’ll End Up Fighting” (full ver.)
I'll end up fighting, Gesu no Kiwami Otome.

It’s a thrilling track from Gesu no Kiwami Otome that gives you a push to face everyday frustrations and challenges head-on.

Released in January 2018 as a single and featured in a commercial for the mobile game Clash Royale, it’s marked by an addictive hook and a driving pace that pull listeners straight into the game’s world.

As Enon Kawatani put it, he felt “played by the game,” and the song brilliantly captures the thrill and rush of total immersion.

Arriving as their first single in about two years and three months, it further accelerated the band’s momentum.

When you feel like you’re about to explode from work or relationship stress, this track will leave you feeling refreshed—perfect for a quick mood reset.

Refrain of SoulsYoko Takahashi

It’s a masterpiece where Yoko Takahashi’s overwhelming vocal power—enough to shake the listener’s soul—blends magnificently with a majestic orchestra.

The theme suggested by the title, “repetition” or “recursion,” may have gained a universal depth and breadth precisely because lyricist Neko Oikawa honed her senses and spun the words without probing too deeply into the heart of the story.

Released as Takahashi’s single in February 1997, it left a powerful impression as the theme song for the anime film Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth.

The track shone at No.

3 on the Oricon Weekly Chart and sold over 630,000 copies in total; it was later included on the album “~refrain~ The songs were inspired by ‘EVANGELION’.” It’s a song you’ll want to sing when you need to unleash your emotions at karaoke or immerse yourself in the world of an epic story.
