Blues in the ClosetI wish it could stay midnight forever.

Blues in the Closet Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni.

A band overwhelmingly supported by teenage girls, Zutto Mayonaka de Iinoni.

While they’re basically J‑POP, their slightly jazzy arrangements are distinctive, and they’ve even received a song from world-renowned bassist Ryu Kawamura.

Among their songs, the one I especially recommend to teenage girls is “Blues in the Closet.” I think ACAne’s vocal timbre perfectly suits the higher range typical of teenage girls.

Also, the lack of extreme pitch jumps makes it easier to sing.

To all my ex-girlfriendsKoresawa

To All My Ex-Girlfriends - Koresawa

Koresawa, who enjoys overwhelming popularity especially among younger generations, is a singer-songwriter from Osaka known for basically not showing her face and appearing as “Reko-chan,” a bear girl, in MVs.

Her songs—sung with outstanding melodic sense and lyrics that skillfully, and at times candidly, express women’s true feelings—are also hugely popular at karaoke.

The track we’re introducing this time, the impressively titled “To All My Ex-Girlfriends,” is a digital single released in 2024 and a hit distinguished by its MV set in a karaoke box.

Its country-flavored, upbeat sound, lyrics that keep slightly hard-to-say emotions bright, and catchy melody all showcase her impeccable taste.

While the overall pitch sits a bit on the higher side, the melodic line is easy to sing, and those with lower voices can handle it just fine by adjusting the key.

Be mindful of the bouncy rhythm, and make sure to bring out the contrast between smoothly connected sections and crisply articulated parts!

Almond ChocolateLLIT

Almond ChocolateLLIT

ILLIT is a K-pop group that’s rapidly gaining momentum.

The group name is pronounced “EYE-lit.” They’re particularly popular among teenagers, and one of their most beloved tracks is Almond Chocolate.

It’s an extremely cute, feminine song, but it features a lot of rests, allowing you to prepare properly before the high notes.

The range is fairly high, from mid1 F to high D#, but the abundance of rests makes it easier to handle the height, which is what makes this song easy to sing.

It’s a guaranteed hit with guys, so consider adding it to your repertoire.

All of the Youthsuis from Yorushika

“All About Youth” suis from Yorushika

Suis, the female singer active as the vocalist of Yorushika, is also pursuing her solo career enthusiastically, and she recently dropped a cover of a classic song.

That would be “Wakamono no Subete.” This piece is a cover of a famous track by Fujifabric, and I imagine many teenage girls may have discovered Fujifabric through Suis’s cover.

The gently understated vocal line that evokes youth has a narrow range and doesn’t call for advanced techniques, making it very easy to sing.

Definitely give it a try.

sixth-magnitude starcoarse sugar

This is Zarame’s major debut single, selected as the ending theme for the second cour of Season 7 of the TV anime My Hero Academia in April 2024.

Her vocal prowess, which earned her popularity through street performances and led to her major debut, is a key attraction.

The first half begins gently, and the latter half shifts into a slightly harder sound.

A highlight is the skillful switching between chest voice and falsetto in the chorus; rather than forcing the switch with extra power, try to maintain the same singing approach as the chest voice and simply let the tone shift into falsetto.

Immerse yourself in the lyrics, which align with the anime’s worldview, and sing it out.

Because we are living beingsGreen Yellow Society

Ryokuoushoku Shakai 'Because We Are Living Beings' Official Video / Ryokuoushoku Shakai – Bokura wa Ikimono dakara
Because we are living beings, Ryokuoushoku Shakai.

Ryokuoushoku Shakai is a four-member co-ed pop-rock band.

Although they call themselves a pop-rock band, their sound leans strongly into J-pop, and their songs are characterized by being very singable.

Among their tracks, the one I especially recommend is Bokura wa Ikimono Dakara.

This song is also notable for its catchy finish.

The chorus features falsetto, but the song gives you ample setup before entering the falsetto, so it isn’t particularly difficult.

Many teenage girls should be able to sing the falsetto without any problem.

Marunouchi SadisticRingo Sheena

It’s one of Ringo Sheena’s best-known smash hits… or so it seems, but if you look it up properly, it was actually released in 1999.

It’s included on her second album, “Muzai Moratorium,” though it was never released as a single.

The song has also been performed by Tokyo Jihen, the band from Sheena’s other activities.

In 2024—23 years after its release—it surpassed 200 million streams, making it a song emblematic of the subscription era.

I don’t think Sheena’s songs are particularly difficult in terms of key.

However, the challenging elements—such as the complexity of the vocabulary in the lyrics, her distinctive rolled r’s, and the contrasting use of a clear, translucent voice and a raw, powerful belt—are likely why it’s so frequently sung at karaoke.

Beyond the basics of hitting pitch and keeping rhythm, try to make those diverse forms of expression your own and give it a sing.
