Sweet DispositionThe Temper Trap

Sweet DispositionThe Temper Trap

The Temper Trap is an alternative rock quartet formed in Melbourne, Australia.

The band’s name was inspired by a combination of their favorite song, “The Lady Is a Tramp,” and the film “The Parent Trap.” Their song was also included on the soundtrack of the 2009 film (500) Days of Summer.

God of WineThird Eye Blind

Third Eye Blind – God of Wine (San Francisco)
God of WineThird Eye Blind

Third Eye Blind is mostly known for songs like Jumper, but this track—the final song on their first album—is a true masterpiece.

While retaining that distinct Third Eye Blind vibe, it unfolds quietly, almost like an acoustic solo performance.

I feel it’s nothing less than a model example of a rock band ballad.

WildflowersTom Petty

This is the title track from Wildflowers, released in 1994 as Tom Petty’s second solo album by the singer-songwriter also known for his work with the Heartbreakers.

Among an album that ranges from straightforward rock numbers reminiscent of the early Heartbreakers to songs steeped in rootsy influences, the relaxed atmosphere—sung over simple, breezy acoustic guitar—quietly stirs a deep emotion.

ButterflyWeezer

This song, which compares a butterfly to the woman he loves, feels packed with Rivers Cuomo’s raw passion.

The “I’m sorry” part at the end is especially easy for Japanese listeners to grasp, and it makes me think Pinkerton was embraced in Japan for reasons like that—this track alone could serve as a sort of Pinkerton digest.

There aren’t many short songs that can speak for an entire album, which is why I chose this one.

No StringsX Ambassadors

X Ambassadors – No Strings (Official)
No StringsX Ambassadors

Released in January 2024, the new song by X Ambassadors is a poignant track that portrays love and conflict toward one’s hometown.

The powerful refrain, “You don’t need wings to fly,” leaves a strong impression, conjuring images of young people striving to move forward even amid harsh realities.

As a lead single from the album Townie, the song is set in Ithaca, a city in upstate New York, vividly depicting the daily lives, dreams, and struggles of its youth.

It’s sure to resonate with anyone who holds complicated feelings about their hometown or is wrestling to find their own path.

breakdown.Yungblud

This work by UK-born Yungblud is an ambitious piece that candidly portrays a struggle with inner darkness.

Released in June 2024, the song centers on mental health, frankly expressing the loss of self-esteem and inner turmoil.

Yungblud’s emotive vocals and sharp insight into the inner lives of today’s youth are evident throughout.

Produced in partnership with mental health organizations, the track also offers a glimpse of his commitment to contributing to society through music.

BlackPearl Jam

Pearl Jam – Black (Official Audio)
BlackPearl Jam

A ballad from Pearl Jam’s debut album Ten.

It’s rumored to be a song about a girl who had an abortion without telling her boyfriend, but frontman Eddie Vedder has suggested it depicts a deceased girlfriend or close relative.
