Beautiful high notes that feel so good! Classic Western songs where you can fully enjoy high-tone vocals.

One of the charms of Western music is songs that feature high-tone vocals—something that’s hard for many Japanese singers to replicate.

From powerful belts to beautiful falsettos, even if you don’t understand the English lyrics, there’s a persuasiveness and energy that draws you into their world.

Of course, high notes don’t automatically mean something is great or sophisticated, but it’s also true that countless masterpieces have emerged over a long history.

So this time, I’ve selected tracks that spotlight high-tone vocals.

The picks span a wide range of eras, so if you come across artists or songs you don’t know, be sure to check them out.

HelloAdele

This song was covered by Taka from ONE OK ROCK, and one of my male students practiced it a lot in our lessons! It was the Taka version, but as he kept practicing, he was able to hit the high notes in the chorus cleanly and comfortably.

So it might be a good practice piece, and it’s also a song that feels amazing to sing once you can do it, so I recommend it! The A and B sections are basically low and gentle, but the chorus jumps into high notes, so the trick is to sing without tensing up.

You might feel like belting, but imagine sending the sound far out.

There are also falsetto ad-libs, so if you keep resonating in the space between your eyebrows and the top of your head, switching between chest voice and falsetto will become smoother.

Try to stay mindful of lifting your facial muscles as you sing!

It is especially beloved as a song to be played at life’s milestones, such as weddings.

The fusion of transcendent power and soaring high vocals makes this piece an enduring classic.
