Included on the 1979 album “Reggatta de Blanc.” A London-based three-piece rock band formed in 1977.

The chord progression is rooted in reggae rhythms, and the melody exudes a sense of emptiness.

Its slightly jazz-leaning sound and Sting’s high-pitched vocals craft a distinctive, one-of-a-kind track.

Trashcan Sinatras are a band from the UK.

Their 1990 album CAKE is an unforgettable work in the history of neo-acoustic music.

The first track on that album is this song.

Lyrical yet brisk, with exceptional clarity and sparkle, it is a piece truly worthy of being called a masterpiece.

Included on the 1983 album “Labour of Love.” A cover of the single released by Jamaican singer Eric Donaldson.

A six-piece British reggae band formed in Birmingham in 1978.

Compared to the original, the arrangement is much more pop and catchy, making it easier to listen to.

Personally, I prefer their arrangement.

Love Walks InVan Halen

Included on the 1986 album 5150.

A four-piece rock band from California that debuted in 1978.

The album title 5150 comes from police slang derived from a California statute that sets out involuntary commitment procedures for mentally ill individuals who pose a danger to themselves or others.

This track features Sammy Hagar on vocals, and it’s a number brimming with a different kind of appeal from Dave’s.

WonderlandXTC

XTC is a rock band from the UK.

When they debuted, they had a punk image, but over time their musical style changed and they became a band known for their distinctive sound and presence.

Their music always amazed me with its curious key changes and surprising melodies.

This track is packed with imagery from Alice in Wonderland, and the music video is based on that theme.

With a relaxed tempo, it unfolds a hazy, dreamlike world.

The song was included on the 1983 album Mummer.

Journey, the American hard rock band.

This is the first track from their 1978 album Infinity.

It was later released as a single.

When it comes to Journey, Don’t Stop Believin’ and Open Arms are the famous ones, but this song is a hidden gem overshadowed by those hits.

Listening to Steve Perry’s resonant vocals, you can almost see the dawn breaking over the Bay Area cityscape.

Included on the 1984 album “Reckless.” Born in 1959.

A singer-songwriter from Canada.

The piano that runs throughout the track resonates with a truly gentle, soothing tone.

The lyrics are a very sugary love song, but it’s curious how his husky voice makes it sound cool.
