A Collection of Classic Vocaloid Masterpieces Released in 2010 [Nostalgic]
Last updated:

Sparked by the 2007 release of the vocal synthesis library “Hatsune Miku,” the Vocaloid scene spread explosively, centered around Niconico Douga.

Some of you might have jumped on the boom back then and devoted your youth to Vocaloid.

I’m one of those people, as you can probably tell from what I’m writing here.

This time, we’re featuring a selection of iconic Vocaloid tracks from 2010!

It’s a lineup that will feel nostalgic and also help you rediscover what makes these songs great.

Of course, works by Vocaloid producers who are still active today are included as well!

Be sure to check it out to the end.

MatryoshkaBee

Hachi MV “Matryoshka” HACHI / MATRYOSHKA
Matryoshka Bee

Vocaloid producer HACHI is actually the same person as Kenshi Yonezu, who’s active as a singer-songwriter.

“Matryoshka,” which he released under the name HACHI, is a rock number with a downbeat vibe and distinctive flavor.

The simple, catchy performance is certainly cool, but that’s not all this song offers.

Just when you think it’s over, the mood suddenly shifts, and in the end the tempo keeps speeding up—the complex song structure is this track’s greatest charm!

DECO*27 – Mosaic Roll feat. GUMI
Mosaic Roll DECO*27

DECO*27 has become one of the producers representing the Vocaloid scene.

“Mosaik Role,” which uses Megpoid and GUMI, is a track that skillfully expresses the “pain of the heart” he excels at.

In particular, the way it leads into the chorus—like his “Otome Kaibou”—features a momentary, emphatic break that’s irresistibly cool! By the way, in 2021 he released an arranged version sung by Hatsune Miku, “Mosaik Role (Reloaded) feat.

Hatsune Miku,” so if you’d like, try listening and comparing the two.

World's End Dancehall wowaka

World End Dancehall by wowaka—who also served as the frontman of the rock band Hitorie—is a track with an irresistibly catchy rhythm.

The song features Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka, and their call-and-response is simply irresistible! Its style pushes guitar riffs to the forefront while spotlighting finely programmed beats for a dance-rock vibe.

The rapid-fire vocal lines and the drum fill right before the chorus are super cool, too.

It’s a highly addictive song that makes you want to hit replay again and again!

Calc.JimmySam-P

This is a Vocaloid song that gently stays by your side in the sorrow of heartbreak.

Created by JimmyThumb-P, a Vocaloid producer known for numerous hits like “from Y to Y,” it was released in September 2010.

The unforgettable parting is sung over a fast-paced band sound, resulting in something that really pierces the heart.

Before you know it, you end up empathizing with the protagonist and feeling tears well up.

Many popular singers have covered it, so if you’re interested, be sure to browse the videos.

Deep Sea GirlYuuyu

Yuyu feat. Hatsune Miku “Deep Sea Girl” MV (with translation)
Deep Sea Girl Yuuyu

When you’re feeling down, this song might be just the help you need.

It’s by the Vocaloid producer yuyu, also known for works like “Tengaku” and “Sakura no Kisetsu.” The piece begins with slightly wistful piano and guitar arpeggios, tracing the story of a protagonist steeped in sorrow.

But at the climax, a twist brings catharsis.

A rearranged version was released in 2022, so be sure to compare the two.

melancholicJunky

Melancholic / Junky feat. Kagamine Rin
Melancholic Junkie

It’s an easy-to-listen-to rock number that colors a band sound with chiptune bleeps.

Created by the popular Vocaloid producer Junky—who has also worked on anime songs and original tracks for famous VTubers—the song was released in April 2010.

The lyrics depict the inner feelings of a protagonist who can’t be honest with the person they like, and it really tugs at the heartstrings.

I think many teens in particular will find it relatable.

The work has also been adapted into a novel and a manga, so please check them out if you get the chance.

Huh? Ah, I see.Chouchou-P

Huh? Ah, right. - 10th Anniversary Edition – / Chouchou-P feat. Hatsune Miku
Huh? Ah, right. Choucho-P.

If you want to listen to a mature-sounding Vocaloid track, this is the one! It’s a signature work by Chouchou-P, a Vocaloid producer who also performs as singer-songwriter Yuu Ichinose.

The band-style arrangement, with waves of piano tones, is stylish and irresistibly cool.

The explosive power of the chorus sweeps you away, and the sexy lyrics make your heart race.

I’ve included a video recommendation as well, and there’s a 10th-anniversary remake released in 2020—if you haven’t heard it yet, definitely give it a listen.
