AmbivalentUru

Ambivalent Uru

Singer-songwriter Uru has been active since the late 2010s, and she’s achieved remarkable success especially since entering the 2020s.

Among her songs, a recent track I highly recommend as being particularly easy to sing is “Ambivalent.” It features chord progressions and vocal lines commonly found in J-pop.

Her voice is a whisper voice— a style that mixes breath into the tone, like a soft, murmured delivery.

Very few professional Japanese singers aim to create thickness with this kind of voice, so when you actually sing it, raise the microphone level and focus on keeping your pitch aligned.

Pig Thunder (feat. Kaai Yuki)Yukopi

Vocaloid producer Yukopi, who gained nationwide popularity with “Kyofu All Back,” has left many with a strong impression thanks to their catchy, distinctive wordplay and melodies, as well as playful music videos.

Among Yukopi’s songs, the one I especially recommend to women as being easy to sing is “Buta Thunder (feat.

Utaite Yuki).” Despite its surreal nature, the track has an irresistibly cute vibe.

While the song’s overall impression is outstanding, the vocal line itself is very simple, with no falsetto parts or sections where you need to belt.

If you want a reference of a human performance, be sure to check out VTuber Akami Karubi’s cover.

LonelinessMrs. GREEN APPLE

This song is included on the 5th album “ANTENNA,” released on July 4, 2023, and it conveys Ms.

Omori’s strength and gentleness.

The overall vocal range is C3–D5, but there aren’t many high notes in the song; it mostly sits around G3, so I think it’s a piece you can sing almost entirely in chest voice.

That said, there are spots where falsetto appears—switch lightly into head voice, aiming for a gentle head resonance.

The chorus is where the emotion really surges and you can feel the power.

Keep a solid sense of rhythm and hit the first note cleanly.

Also, when the melody changes, be mindful of pitch.

If your singing style shifts drastically, you may tense up or strain your throat, so keep your facial muscles lifted to prevent the pitch from dropping.

Try to maintain the sensation of resonance around the glabella (between the eyebrows) throughout.

Chilli Beans.

are a three-piece band popular among teenage girls and women in their early twenties.

While they mainly focus on stylish J-pop, they showcase their signature musicality in their new song “escape” as well.

Since the track is sung in English, it might feel as challenging as Western pop, but it doesn’t use any advanced vocal techniques typical of it.

The vocal lines are simply in English, yet arranged in a very Japanese pop-friendly, easy-to-sing style, making it a must for anyone who wants to sing without strain.

sympathyDAZBEE

DAZBEE | “Sympathy” M/V
Sympathy DAZBEE

DAZBEE is an artist from South Korea who energizes Japan’s utaite scene.

Her biggest appeal is, without a doubt, her vocal timbre.

She’s known for a clear, translucent, high voice.

Because of that, people with a narrower vocal range might naturally shy away from her songs.

That’s why I recommend Sympathy.

It may seem high at first, but since the vocal lines are concentrated in the higher range, lowering the key makes it perfectly singable even for those with a limited range.

Ghost AvenueEVE

Ghost Avenue – Eve Music Video
Ghost Avenue EVE

I think Eve’s songs include a relatively large number that are easy for lower-voiced female singers to sing.

The vocal range for this time’s “Ghost Avenue” is E3–A4, and it sits more in the low to mid range rather than the high range, so there aren’t many parts where you need to belt.

The main thing to watch out for when singing is the rhythm! The song has a bouncy groove overall, so keeping the beat with your hands or body while you sing will help you get into the groove and make it easier to sing.

Eve’s music spans various genres, so definitely listen to different tracks and add them to your repertoire!

Macaroni Enpitsu also has a wide vocal range, and many of their songs feel “high” for men, but for low-voiced women there should be many keys that are easy to sing.

The song’s range is fairly contained at E3–B4.

Hattori’s vocals have a gentle, talk-like delivery at times, while also having some raspy parts, making it a track packed with the best of Macaroni Enpitsu.

The song is short—about three minutes—and easy to memorize, so definitely add it to your repertoire! By the way, I love Macaroni Enpitsu too, and I’ve uploaded a video of me singing Young Adult on Instagram, so please come give it a listen if you’d like!
