You get into your thirties, start feeling settled into working life, and before you know it, you’re in your forties…

There must be many people who feel this way.

It’s also said that this stage of life comes with heavier responsibilities at work and increased stress.

So we’ve put together a selection of songs that might make men in this age group smile and feel energized.

Interesting songs recommended for men in their 40s (61–70)

I don’t want to get out of my futon.Uchikubi Gokumon Doukoukai

Uchikubi Gokumon Doukoukai 'I Don’t Want to Get Out of the Futon'
I don’t want to get out from under the futon – Uchikubigokumon-Doukoukai

A B-side track from the 2017 single “Fuyuban” (Winter Edition).

A three-piece rock band formed in 2004.

They’re a relatively recent band, but definitely one I want people to know about.

When this song was uploaded to YouTube, it gained support from overseas listeners and surpassed 2 million views.

It seems we all think the same things, doesn’t it?

a blatant lieSanma Akashiya

A Blatant Lie / Sanma Akashiya Lyrics and Music: Toshihiko Takamizawa
A blatant lie, Akashiya Sanma

A single released in 1987.

Born in 1955.

A comedian from Nara Prefecture.

The song was provided by Toshihiko Takamizawa of THE ALFEE.

The backing vocals were handled by Mamiko Takai of the then-popular Onyanko Club.

It’s a pretty decent song, but why is it that listening to Sanma’s singing voice makes it funny? (lol)

Impossible!! (You can't do that)Bakufū Slump

Included on the 1984 album “Yoi.” A four-piece rock band formed in 1982 in Tokyo.

Due to inappropriate expressions in the lyrics, the song was designated as banned from broadcast by NHK.

For a while after its release, combined with their provocative live performances, the band was often treated as a comedy act.

Hey hey, thanks a bunch—much appreciated!SMAP

[SMAP] — “Hey Hey Ookini Maido Ari” — [partial cut]
Hey Hey Thank you always, SMAP

Included on the 1994 album “SMAP 006 ~SEXY SIX~.” A five-member idol group formed in 1988.

This single’s lyrics are entirely in Kansai dialect and were written around the theme of merchants in Namba, resulting in a song that’s quite unlike what you’d expect from an idol group.

Nodding MarchNodding Trio

A single released in 1982.

Beat Kiyoshi of Two Beat, who was active during the 1980s manzai boom.

He formed a trio with Yo-hachi Shimada of B&B and Ryusuke Matsumoto of Shinsuke and Ryusuke, and they released this single.

The trio’s name was chosen because if the three of them tried to do manzai together, they’d end up doing nothing but nodding.

A flawless rock ’n’ rollerAladdin

Included on the 1982 album “ALADDIN VS Aladdin.” A nine-member band formed in 1980.

Vocalist Takahara has said that the opening of the song quotes the folk tune Akita Ondo, while the chorus borrows the melody from Yokohama Ginbae’s “Tsuppari High School Rock’n Roll (School Edition).” It’s supposed to be rock, yet for some reason it’s a laugh-inducing track.

petty bourgeois; small-minded citizen; a person of modest means and ordinary, risk-averse temperamentTatsuo Kamon

Included on the 1989 album “Petty Citizen Compendium.” Born in 1959.

A singer-songwriter from Osaka Prefecture.

This duet song was released featuring actor Kazuhiro Ogura from the Super Eccentric Theater.

It’s sprinkled with everyday, petty-citizen “relatable” episodes that will make you grin as you recognize yourself in the lyrics.
