Toi Et MoiParadis

Paradis is a French electronic music duo formed in 2010, consisting of Simon Mény and Pierre Rousseau.
Their sound centers on electro-pop, skillfully blended with band-style elements, and they wrap it all up in a stylish, contemporary production that’s seriously cool.
They’re also excellent at sampling old dance tunes, and their technique of transforming vintage sounds into a uniquely ambient, modern vibe is truly impressive.
Le Vent Nous PorteraNoir Désir

The French rock band Noir Désir had been active since as early as 1980 and, sadly, disbanded in 2010.
Many of their songs are very soothing, letting you savor beautiful French pronunciation along with nostalgic guitar, so I recommend listening to them when you’re tired.
They also have many tracks that incorporate unique solos featuring lots of folk instruments, so be sure to pay attention to that too! Since this band has many songs with a wistful, melancholic feel, they’re also a great recommendation for anyone who likes that kind of music.
Brigades spécialesArt Zoyd

Art Zoyd, pioneers of experimental music that France is proud of.
Formed in 1969, they are known for their unique sound that fuses free jazz, progressive rock, and the avant-garde.
They debuted with the 1971 single “Sangria” and drew attention with the 1976 album “Symphonie pour le jour où brûleront les cités.” Their appeal extends to composing for film and ballet, with works such as 1990’s “Nosferatu” and 2002’s “Metropolis” receiving high acclaim.
Under the baton of Gérard Hourbette, who was with the group until May 2018, they continually pursued cutting-edge musical expression.
Their music exudes a dark, mystical atmosphere and is recommended for fans of ambient music.
The Dark MemoriesHeavenly

Heavenly is a band that represents the French power metal scene.
Formed in 1994, they drew attention with their debut album, Coming from the Sky.
Their appeal lies in a melodic, grand sound and performances by members with high technical prowess.
The album Virus, released in 2006, ranked high on the French charts and recorded strong sales across Europe.
Their music is characterized by fast-paced guitar riffs and beautiful keyboard melodies, painting a fantastical worldview.
They’re a recommended band not only for fans of power metal but also for anyone who enjoys epic music.
Short and EntertainingJamaica

Despite the straightforward band name, Jamaica—the band from France, not Jamaica—is a rock duo consisting of Antoine Hilaire and Flo Lyonnet.
Their debut album, No Problem, released in 2010, drew attention for being produced by Xavier de Rosnay of Justice, the popular French electro duo, and it even became a hit here in Japan.
Their stylish French rock, shaped by the electro generation, fuses elegant melodies, emotional rock sounds, and floor-ready dance beats with great taste—making it easy to get into even for newcomers to Western music.
Highly recommended for those who got into French rock through Phoenix and are looking for similar bands!
SparkCOCOON

Cocoon is a French band known for singing in English.
The band was formed in 2006 by male vocalist Mark Daumail and female vocalist Morgane Imbeaud.
Their first album, released in 2007, sold over 150,000 copies and quickly became a success in France.
Cocoon’s greatest appeal lies in the beautiful harmonies woven by their two voices.
Because the accompaniment is a simple acoustic guitar sound, their whispery, beautiful vocals stand out clearly.
Cocoon has many soothing songs, so why not give them a listen when you’re tired from work or housework?

SALOP(E)Therapie TAXI

Formed in 2016, the French pop-rock band Therapie TAXI is known for its fresh sound that blends a band-oriented style with various elements like hip-hop.
Their songs carry a chic overall vibe while still packing intensity, offering a sound and worldview you don’t often find in other countries—highly recommended.
Although they unfortunately disbanded in 2020, they were a wonderful band, and I really hope they reunite someday!
