I want to sing at karaoke! Songs by male artists recommended for Gen Z

Do you have a go-to setlist for karaoke?

In the ever-evolving J-pop scene where countless new songs are released every day, it’s tough to always learn the latest tracks and sing them.

So this time, we’re introducing karaoke songs by male artists that we recommend for Gen Z!

Since these are all hit songs, they should come in handy no matter who you’re going to karaoke with.

Because we chose well-known tracks, some of them are challenging to sing—but that’s exactly why, if you can pull them off, you’ll be a hero for sure!

It seems like it has to be you — Oishi Masayoshi

Masayoshi Oishi is a singer-songwriter who has gained popularity, including through his interactions with Junichi Kato.

He is also known for his wide vocal range, and his high-register singing is highly praised by many fans.

In his famous song “Kimi ja Nakya Dame Mitai,” you can hear beautiful falsetto in key moments.

The transition from chest voice to falsetto is exceptionally smooth, so be sure to pay attention to those parts when you listen.

RUNWAYTENDRE

TENDRE – RUNWAY(Official Visualizer)
RUNWAYTENDRE

TENDRE is the solo project of Taro Kawahara, a multi-instrumentalist as well as a singer-songwriter and producer.

TENDRE has earned high praise for the ability to ground songs in R&B, soul, and hip-hop while polishing them into high-quality pop.

Released in May 2025, the track “RUNWAY” exemplifies TENDRE’s appeal, standing out with refined, meticulously crafted sound.

It might seem a bit challenging to sing at karaoke, but the melody itself isn’t that difficult—once you try it, you may be surprised at how smoothly it goes.

Give it a shot, and deliver it with cool confidence.

Coffee Float (feat. hard life)[Alexandros]

Alexandros is a rock band that has been active since the 2000s.

Since entering the 2020s, they’ve further refined their stylistic breadth, releasing hits that differ in taste each time.

Among their songs, the one I particularly recommend is “Coffee Float (feat.

hard life).” It’s a work that feels like a mix of indie rock and artcore, featuring fast-paced percussion, while the vocal line is relatively monotone and emphasizes the lower register.

It’s exceptionally easy to sing and highlights a deeper voice, so consider adding it to your repertoire.

NEON TOKYOFUJIBASE

NEON TOKYOFUJIBASE

FUJIBASE is a multi-artist who does everything from track-making to drum performance.

Known for his highly sophisticated musicality, he’s often compared to Vaundy due to their similar style.

Among FUJIBASE’s songs, I especially recommend “NEON TOKYO.” While it features some falsetto parts, most of the chorus sits in the mid-to-low range, which helps highlight the richness of a lower male voice.

Definitely consider adding it to your repertoire.

Shota Shimizu’s new song “Syrup.” Shimizu is known for his music that prominently incorporates authentic R&B, and while this track retains those elements, it’s shaped into a lighter, more modern R&B style.

He isn’t necessarily a low-voiced artist, but since most of this song sits in the mid-to-low range, it should really showcase the appeal of male singers with lower voices.

It’s also recommended to intentionally lower the key to emphasize the low end even more.

Peanut Butter Araya Shota

Shota Araya is a singer-songwriter whose originality-rich musical style—mixing Black music with contemporary J-POP—has earned him widespread popularity.

While he drew attention as the former vocalist of a popular band, his activities have prioritized music over popularity, and he has produced several notable songs.

Among his tracks, the one I especially recommend for men with lower voices is Peanut Butter.

Although it has an R&B vibe, the vocal line is fairly steady and understated, and the song is arranged throughout in the low to low-mid range.

Destiny Aぇ! group

A gem of a love song that delicately portrays a straightforward devotion, even while harboring clumsy feelings of love.

The Aぇ! group’s intricately woven vocals and deeply emotive melody brilliantly color a bittersweet love story.

Set for inclusion on the album “Chameleon,” slated for release in June 2025, this track has been selected as the theme song for the TV Asahi drama “Musashino Rondo,” starring group member Yoshinori Masakado.

The music video’s world, in which the message of love is conveyed with strength even under the pouring rain, superbly captures a heart buffeted by fate.

It’s a song that stands by everyone troubled by love and gives them courage.
