Songs that make you sound good at karaoke

Since the 2020s, the vocal skills demanded in Japan’s music scene have advanced dramatically, and most hit songs have become quite challenging.

Many people may feel that even if they want to sound good at karaoke, it’s hard to find the right songs.

So this time, we’ve picked out songs that make you sound great at karaoke!

Focusing mainly on Japanese music, we’ve selected a wide range from timeless classics to the latest hits.

Because these are songs that tend to “sound good,” we’ve centered our picks on tracks that are easy to sing—perfect even if you’re not confident in your vocal ability.

Tomei – Cinderella Covered in Ashes [Official Lyric Video]
Cinder-Akari Tomyo

We’re in an era where talented musicians born in the 2000s are leading the scene, and TOMEI—born in 2003 and discovered by director Makoto Shinkai and RADWIMPS—is certainly one of them.

The song we’re introducing here, “Haikaburi,” is her debut track, produced by RADWIMPS’ Yojiro Noda and released in July 2023.

Written and composed by TOMEI herself, it fully showcases her gifts as a singer-songwriter.

“Haikaburi” carries a dark pop vibe reminiscent of Billie Eilish, and its word choice stands out, resulting in a track that highlights her individuality.

Once you grasp the song’s atmosphere and get past the recurring falsetto parts, even those who aren’t completely confident in their vocal skills should be able to sing it well.

The chorus is surprisingly easy to sing, too, so I’d encourage anyone looking to try a song with a different feel than usual to give it a shot.

Bitter VacationMrs. GREEN APPLE

Bitter Vacation Mrs. GREEN APPLE

When it comes to Mrs.

GREEN APPLE’s songs, many people probably think of melodies with a wide vocal range backed by vocalist Motoki Omori’s overwhelming singing ability, and may have given up on trying them at karaoke because they seem difficult.

For those people, I recommend the song Bitter Vacation, released in November 2024.

Among Mrs.

GREEN APPLE’s tracks, its melody line is relatively low in pitch and not overly complex, making it the kind of song you can sing comfortably along to its lively rhythm.

There are moments where a touch of irregular meter slips in, but once you get used to it, it’s not that hard—so be sure to add it to your karaoke repertoire.

DRESSING ROOMNatori

Born in 2003, Natori began posting his music on TikTok in his teens, and his 2022 release “Overdose” became a massive viral hit that catapulted his name into the spotlight.

Whether it’s a stylish city-pop-inspired track or a hard-hitting rock-tinged number, his uniquely alluring low register and melodic lines form the core of his sound, creating a world that’s unmistakably his.

For those who want to sing like Natori, I recommend “DRESSING ROOM,” released in February 2025.

It’s a chic track with the danceable, groovy production and sultry melodies characteristic of Natori—perfect for a night drive.

Since the pitch sits low, it’s especially worth trying if you struggle with high notes.

The slightly rapid-fire delivery, the way the lyrics fit the melody, and the rhythmic phrasing aren’t exactly easy, but if you listen to the original repeatedly and really internalize both the melody and the rhythm, you’ll be well prepared for the real thing!

shameless; indecentNEW!CHANMINA

CHANMINA – Lewd (Official Music Video) –
Shameless NEW! Chanmina

Chanmina’s Harenchi is sung mostly in a lower register, giving off a mature, sultry vibe.

Just when you think it will end quietly, the last chorus turns emotional and shifts into a slightly higher range.

I think that switch is really important.

There’s also a rap section in the middle, so that part needs practice too.

My students practiced the rap section a lot as well.

When the rap really lands, it feels great to sing and sounds very cool.

For the rap melody, it seems easy to memorize if you first focus on humming or using a neutral syllable like “la” instead of the lyrics.

Try singing without forcing or pushing your voice!

Yes, with pleasure.Kent on this side

For Kocchi no Kento, a “multi-creator” with truly multifaceted talents, 2024 was a breakthrough year.

His track Hai Yorokonde, which was also performed at the 75th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen that same year, was released in May 2024 and became an explosive viral hit.

As of 2025, it has racked up an astonishing 170 million views on YouTube.

Kocchi no Kento is known for his strong vocal skills honed through a cappella, but Hai Yorokonde sits in a relatively low key and doesn’t require a wide vocal range.

While the lyrics are a bit fast, it sounds great if you keep to the rhythm.

It’s also extremely well-known, so definitely give it a try at karaoke.

Yuuri 'Shutter' Official Music Video
Shutter NEW! Yuuri

It’s a heartbreaking love song where Yuuri’s emotions seem to explode as the song progresses toward the latter half.

Yuuri’s songs often have easy-to-follow structures, and most build up in the order of verse A → verse B → chorus.

Because of that, you need to add momentum to each melodic section when singing.

He’s a recommended artist for those who want to absolutely peak at the chorus when they sing.

Some of my students sing his songs in vocal training and always say, “It feels so good to sing the chorus!” Since most of his songs are in chest voice, it’s important to project your voice without hesitation.

Even if you don’t have a lot of volume, resonating in your chest makes it feel great to sing! Try placing your hand on your chest, feel the resonance, and sing out confidently.

ENDRECHERI – City / THE FIRST TAKE
City NEW! Tsuyoshi Domoto

Tsuyoshi Domoto’s signature song “Machi.” From start to finish, even though he sings quietly, his voice keeps resonating, doesn’t it? That’s proof that it’s resonating through the body rather than just the throat—nasal resonance is very important.

The term “nasal resonance” might sound difficult, but it’s basically what I always call “humming” in my articles.

To put it simply, it’s like humming a tune through your nose.

If you love singing, don’t you often find yourself humming without thinking about it? In fact, once you learn to use your breath properly while humming, it becomes a shortcut to singing well.

The key is not to force sound out of your throat, but to use your breath to make the sound resonate in your head.

Once you get used to it, try opening your mouth and forming words while keeping the resonance in the same place.
