GRAPEVINE, introduced in this article, is one of Japan’s foremost bands of alternative rock to have arisen in that era.

Formed in Osaka in 1993, they made their major debut in 1997 with the mini-album Kakusei.

They broke through with their second album, Lifetime, released in 1999 and featuring classics like Slow and Hikari ni Tsuite, and have since remained mainstays of Japanese rock—highly respected by their peers.
