We’re also highlighting up-and-coming artists that deserve special attention right now, so enjoy discovering something new alongside your favorite bands!

Raion Jin

A four-piece rock band consisting of vocalist Hiitan, guitarist Haruka, bassist Motoki, and drummer Tetsuyuki.

Their defining feature is Hiitan’s boyish singing voice.

The impulsive rock sound and powerful vocals forge an intensely striking music style.

Their songwriting process begins with Haruka crafting the backing track, after which Hiitan writes the lyrics based on the images and feelings inspired by the melody.

The band name “Jin” is said to come from the team’s motto: “Form a ‘camp’ (陣), become a ‘person’ (人) without forgetting ‘benevolence’ (仁), turn into a ‘blade’ (刃), and ascend to ‘god’ (神).”

When it comes to the theme of cool female vocals, LOVE PSYCHEDELICO’s vocalist KUMI is the perfect match.

Her voice, which carries a clear respect for roots music, feels distinctly un-Japanese in the best way—profoundly dramatic and soulful.

The band has been active since the ’90s, yet their sound and her vocals remain completely timeless even now.

I’m almost jealous of anyone who hasn’t heard LOVE PSYCHEDELICO’s many classic tracks yet.

VORACITYMYTH & ROID

They’re a unit that styles themselves as a contemporary creative unit written as MYTH&ROID and read as “Mrs.

Android.” True to that description, their strengths lie in their abundantly talented, highly flexible musicality and broad expressive range.

By effectively incorporating elements like sound effects and even laughter, they convey the limitless possibilities of musical expression as well as the depth of their technique and ideas.

YOU & IDOLTheory of Relativity

YOU & IDOL Theory of Relativity

Among the scene’s most enigmatic and singular presences is the rock band Soutaiseiriron.

I believe the biggest reason for this is, without a doubt, the presence of their vocalist, Etsuko Yakushimaru.

The phrase “one of a kind” may be overused, but it’s exactly the phrase I want to use for her singing voice.

She possesses a clear, pristine beauty in her vocals, and the coded-like lyrics she sings, the tricky harmonies and refrains—every element comes together in such a superb ensemble that I can’t help but think no band will emerge with a worldview that surpasses theirs.

East Of Eden is a five-piece rock band formed around violinist Ayasa.

Their distinctive musical style—combining a metal-based rock sound with classical violin melodies—has garnered significant attention.

They launched in August 2023, showcasing their prowess with the digital single “Evolve [Extended Version].” In October of the same year, they held their first solo concert at Zepp DiverCity to great success, and in December released the mini-album “Forbidden Fruit -1st piece-.” Each member is a seasoned performer with experience across various bands and projects, and their musical backgrounds and individual personalities blend seamlessly.

With a sound that is both heavy and beautiful and a commanding level of musicianship, they strongly appeal to music fans in search of a new form of rock.

Friends is a five-member, mixed-gender band.

They’re also known for each member juggling other bands, and their individual musicianship is top-notch.

Musically, they mostly play danceable pop, with clear influences from disco, funk, and R&B.

In their love songs, you can hear call-and-response parts between vocalists Emi Okamoto and Hirose Hirose, showcasing an approach unique to a twin-vocal setup.

Rock ’n’ Roll Tokyo: The First Impulse

Tokyo Shoki Shodo is a punk band with four female members.

Their straightforward vocal style combined with an unprocessed, raw band sound makes for a classic punk approach, yet there’s a bittersweet, delicate side that feels fresh.

Pay attention to the lyrics that pierce straight into your heart.

There’s no way their live shows won’t be a blast—be sure to catch them in person.
