Iolite Awesome City Club

Awesome City Club, known as “Awesome,” is a female-vocal-led band with high name recognition, including being selected to perform at the 72nd NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen in 2021.

Formed in 2013 around vocalist/guitarist atagi and former member Matsuzaka Takumi, the group operated as a five-piece after current vocalist PORIN joined, and is now active as a trio.

Early on, they drew attention by releasing songs online without putting out physical recordings, and by frequently serving as opening acts for visiting international artists—factors that also raised their profile among Western music fans.

Their refined pop sensibility, grounded in a diverse, genre-defying musicality, and the striking contrast of mixed male-female vocals have produced a body of high-quality songs that gradually won over listeners beyond devoted music fans.

They left a major mark on the J-pop scene of the 2010s and continue to evolve into the 2020s.
