Hakone is one of Kanagawa Prefecture’s representative tourist destinations, but this song sings of the ruggedness of the Hakone mountains.
It was composed by Rentarō Taki, and many of you may have seen it in your music textbooks.
When I was a child, I didn’t really understand the lyrics, but I thought it was a cool song.
A love bound to heavenToku yama Ren, Fumi ko Yotsuya

In 1932, the Sakata-yama double suicide incident occurred in Oiso, Naka District, Kanagawa Prefecture.
A film based on this incident, Heaven-Bound Love, was released astonishingly just one month after the event.
The theme song was sung by Ren Tokuyama and Ayako Shike.
The film was reportedly a hit.
Hanjirō of the Hakone Eight RiKiyoshi Hikawa

This is also a song themed around Hakone, and it was Kiyoshi Hikawa’s debut single.
At the 42nd Japan Record Awards, it won the Best New Artist award.
At concerts, it’s customary for fans to shout “Kiyoshi!” as a call-and-response.

The “Kawasaki Odori” was created when the city became a government-designated city in 1972.

It peaked at No.
18 on the Oricon charts and won various awards, including the Best New Artist Award at the 31st Japan Record Awards.
