For men with low voices: Songs that tend to score well at karaoke

In recent years, Japanese pop music has been influenced by K-pop and Western music, leading to a much more extreme up-and-down in melodies compared to the past.

It’s now completely normal for a song to stay in a low range and then suddenly jump into a sharp falsetto.

Because of that, it’s become harder than before to score high in karaoke.

People with lower voices in particular may feel this trend even more strongly.

So this time, we’ve selected Japanese songs that are easier to score with in karaoke for those with lower voices!

We’ve included plenty of current hits too, so be sure to check them out to the end!

[For Men With Low Voices] Karaoke Songs That Score Easily (11–20)

When love ends, Rin-ne

Rapper Rin-ne, whose catchy rap has a massive following among teens.

Unlike hardcore underground rappers who rap about their life stories, he often focuses on fictional, romance-themed songs, and his catchy lyrics are a big hit with high school girls and the like.

Among Rin-ne’s tracks, the one I especially recommend is “When Love Ends.” It’s closer to a vocal piece than a rap, featuring a relaxed beat and a steady, repetitive vocal line.

The pitch movement is gentle and the overall range is very narrow, so if you choose the right key, you should be able to sing it without any issues.

A bouquet for the boring days — LUCKY TAPES

LUCKY TAPES is the solo project of Kai Takahashi, known for an impressive sound that blends elements of indie pop and R&B into J-pop.

Their soft, delicate tone is a hallmark, and they’ve been steadily gaining attention lately.

Among LUCKY TAPES’ songs, the one I especially recommend is “Bouquet for Boring Days.” It’s not exactly a low-pitched song, but the overall range is narrow and the melodic movement is gentle, so if you set it to the right key, even men with lower voices can sing it without any trouble.

purplequeen bee

Queen Bee is a skilled band that has gained popularity for their original expression and melodies.

The vocalist, Avu-chan, is a singer highly adept in the upper register, and especially boasts incredible ability in falsetto.

While many of their songs center around that kind of vocal style, this work does not feature falsetto; instead, the low to low-mid range is emphasized.

The melodic motion isn’t extreme either, so men with lower voices will likely find it very easy to sing.

Keisuke Kuwata Midnight Dandy

Songs by Keisuke Kuwata and Southern All Stars are popular across a wide range of age groups, so I have a lot of students in their 20s who choose to sing them! This time’s “Mayonaka no Dandy” was apparently first released as a solo single in 1993.

The vocal range is generally around B3 on average, and the melody line is simple, making it easy to remember and sing.

Precisely because the melody is simple, small pitch discrepancies can stand out when matching the pitch bar, but if you sing carefully, your score will definitely go up! When moving from the A and B sections into the chorus, the pitch rises a bit, so try to keep your facial muscles lifted and sing lightly throughout so you don’t tense up.

Once you’re comfortable, you could try adding a slight shout like Kuwata does, but if your score isn’t improving, it might strain your throat, so better not do it (lol).

Gaze by SUPER BEAVER

This song has a very cool, band-like vibe! Especially the way the chorus builds—doesn’t it feel great to sing? I get the impression that SUPER BEAVER doesn’t have many songs in a high range and generally leans lower, and the vocal range for “Manazashi” is C3–A4, so it should be easy for men with lower voices to sing! SUPER BEAVER is very popular, so it seems tough to get concert tickets… They have a lot of cool songs, so adding them to your karaoke repertoire is sure to get everyone hyped!

Yuma, who is active as the “good singer” of the YouTuber group Comdot, has a track called Jingle that my students often sang when their throats weren’t in great shape because it’s “easy to sing,” so I think it’s in a range that’s easy for others too.

Jingle’s vocal range is B2 to D#4, staying mostly in the low to mid range.

Of course, it builds from verse A to verse B to the chorus, but unlike other songs, the range doesn’t change much, so it might be easier to keep pitch.

It’s a perfect song for winter, so start practicing it now!

For Men with Low Voices: Karaoke Songs That Score Well (21–30)

Lost itemTatsuya Kitani

Compared to his high notes, Tatsuya Kitani gives a stronger impression with his lower range, doesn’t he? He has a signature song called “Ao no Sumika,” but in fact, the new song “Nakushimono” has a narrower range and might be easier for low-voice male singers to sing in chest voice.

There are a few higher parts in the chorus, but falsetto works just fine there.

Just note that the last chorus modulates and goes up by a whole step.

If you can get through that section when you sing, you’ll be golden—so add some momentum and let your voice out!
