[For Men] Songs to Get Better at Singing: Practice Tracks for Improving at Karaoke

What are the conditions for becoming a better singer?

Of course, taking proper vocal training lessons to learn correct vocal production and turning your body into a “well-resonating instrument” is both fundamental and the most important point.

But after acquiring those “foundational singing techniques,” it’s also crucial to choose songs that match your level and goals, actually sing them, and build your expressive abilities through real-world practice.

In this feature, we’ve selected recommended practice songs for men who want to improve their singing.

For each song, we explain key points to watch out for when singing it and why we chose it.

Please use this article to suit your own aims.

[For Men] Songs That Make You a Better Singer: Practice Tracks for Improving at Karaoke (111–120)

Bridge of Gloryyuzu

Eikou no Kakehashi – Yuzu (Full)
Glorious Bridge - Yuzu

This song portrays the hardships and setbacks in life, and the journey of overcoming them to grasp hope.

It beautifully expresses the light that awaits beyond tears no one sees and the sweat shed in silence, woven with melodies and words that deeply resonate with listeners.

Released by Yuzu in July 2004, the song was chosen as NHK’s official theme for the Athens Olympics, and, together with the moment the men’s gymnastics team won gold, it became etched in the memories of many.

Loved as a cheer song for everyone striving toward their goals, it continues to offer support: to those taking steady steps toward their dreams and to those confronting the walls before them.

As a piece that accompanies the important moments of life, it delivers a powerful, heartfelt message that truly resonates.

Taketen GReeeeN

This is GReeeeN’s 24th digital-only single, released on May 26, 2021.

It was also selected as the ending theme for the film “Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko.” The song is a gentle, ballad-style piece, sung with a high, clear, piercing tone that showcases its beautiful melody.

While it’s a slightly advanced choice, it’s ideal as a practice piece for developing powerful high-tone singing.

If possible, I recommend practicing to sing it using chesty head voice rather than relying on falsetto.

However, forcing high notes can strain your throat, so start at a comfortable key and gradually work your way closer to the original key.

Above all, don’t push yourself too hard!

Love KnotNovelbright

Ai Musubi Novelbright

A track included on Novelbright’s first major-label album, “Kaimaku Sengen,” which was released on April 28, 2021.

It’s a very simple piece featuring just piano and vocals, making it a difficult song where there’s no hiding behind the backing track.

In it, vocalist Yudai Takenaka delivers an extremely expressive performance with his high tone voice.

The high notes in chest voice during the chorus may sound a bit strained, but that too seems like an artistic choice to convey the song’s bittersweet world.

If you choose this as a practice piece and master this style of singing, I believe you’ll gain something significant.

It’s definitely a selection for advanced singers, but for those confident in their vocals—especially their high range—it’s a must-try.

And if you can play piano, it might be even more fun to sing it as a piano-vocal performance rather than using karaoke!

distanceflumpool

Distance flumpool

This is the 20th single by the Japanese four-piece rock band flumpool, released on May 26, 2021.

It’s a mid-tempo pop song that’s rhythmically very easy to sing and likely fun to practice at karaoke.

Within the track, a very diverse vocal performance is showcased—from verses (A-melo, B-melo) sung primarily in the lower register to high tones incorporating falsetto.

I think it’s one of the best songs for practicing switching vocal production and expressive singing across different ranges.

In particular, being able to switch smoothly from chest voice to falsetto is the most important point when singing this song, so pay special attention to that in your practice.

CantabileNovelbright

CantabileNovelbright

This is the five-member rock band Novelbright’s 14th digital-only single, released in April 2023.

It was written as the opening theme for the anime Blue Orchestra.

Throughout the track, the clean, dramatic string arrangement leaves a strong impression.

Vocalist Yudai Takenaka elevates the song with a performance that employs a wide range of high tones—from gentle falsetto to a very resonant, powerful chest-voice high register.

Being able to recreate this in karaoke might be a special privilege for the high-tenor crowd! That said, please be careful not to strain your throat by forcing those notes.

slashyama

yama 'slash' Lyric Video (TV anime 'Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury' Season 2 Opening)
slashyama

This is yama’s 16th digital-only single, released in April 2023.

yama, who is also active as the vocalist of the music unit BIN, performs this song, which was selected as the opening theme for Season 2 of the TV anime Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury.

Although yama’s gender has not been disclosed, the voice comes across as youthful and androgynous, so I’m introducing this as a karaoke recommendation especially for high-tenor male singers.

The vocal melody seems relatively simple and easy to sing, so make the most of your naturally high range and try to recreate the feel of the original.

As you sing, be sure to pay attention to dynamic contrast throughout the song.

Beautiful finSpitz

This is Spitz’s 46th single, released in April 2023.

It was written as the theme song for the film Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine.

With its bright, mid-tempo feel, just listening to it somehow puts you in a warm, relaxed mood.

Masamune Kusano, Spitz’s vocalist, is renowned for his clear, high-toned voice, and that appeal is on full display in this track.

It’s a song I highly recommend for men with higher ranges to try! Practice making smooth transitions into falsetto where it appears—especially around the chorus and other key parts.
