[Karaoke] A collection of Japanese songs that start with “Mu”

There are times when, right at the moment you need to pick a song at karaoke, you find yourself thinking, “What should I sing…?” Even if you usually listen to music, when the time comes, you can’t think of any song titles.

So this time, we’ve put together a feature that’s perfect for moments like that: a showcase of Japanese songs whose titles start with the syllable “mu.” We’ve picked works from a wide range of eras, so if you go through them in order, I’m sure you’ll come across songs you recognize!

Himawari no Iro (The Color of Sunflowers), included on GARNET CROW’s 2006 album THE TWILIGHT VALLEY.

Many songs about sunflowers express admiration and hope for their nature of blooming toward the sun, but I feel this one is the complete opposite.

It seems to say, just like someone on the verge of breaking before achieving their goal, “It would be fine to wither while gazing at the unreachable sun.” The sound is dark and the lyrics tackle a heavy theme, but it’s a cool track I’d love everyone to listen to at least once.

One of my dreams GARNET CROW

Songs by the creative group GARNET CROW, who produced many anime theme songs and remain popular even after ending their activities due to the high quality of their work.

Their mysterious vocals, profound lyrics, and gentle melodies are recommended for healing a broken heart.

dreamGReeeeN

Yume by GReeeeN, released in 2016.

Just from the title, it’s a song that makes you think of an exciting life ahead, isn’t it? I’m sure many of you are entering school with lots of “dreams.” You want to do this, you want to do that, you want to take on new challenges—and along with those positive feelings, maybe you feel a little uneasy too.

This is a song that stays close to those feelings and makes you want to move forward even more positively.

Sakura no Sora-sensei who praises you endlesslyGYARI

In April, many people are just starting school or beginning new jobs.

And with unfamiliar things, you make mistakes and feel down.

At times like that, here’s a song that can make you feel completely validated.

It’s a track by GYARI, also known as Cocoa Cigarette P, released in 2018.

VOICEROID’s Sakuno Sora appears as a teacher who praises you no matter what you say.

Her cuteness and words will give you a boost of energy.

Moonlight LegendHEAVY HITTER Final

“Moonlight Densetsu,” the theme song of the smash-hit anime Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.

HEAVY HITTER Final has covered this cute girls’ tune in a punk version.

It bursts out of the gate with incredible energy.

It’s such a cool track that you might think, “Wait, is this really ‘Moonlight Densetsu’?” The punk arrangement is wonderful, too.

Dating my ex-boyfriend’s older brother — HKT48

This song is included on HKT48’s 3rd single, Type-B.

With a title and lyrics characteristic of Yasushi Akimoto, the lyrics are quite provocative for an idol song.

However, the cute, pop sound and melody create a charming contrast with the lyrics, which I think is one of its appeals.
