[Memories] A Collection of Nostalgic and Classic Popular Vocaloid Songs
It’s no exaggeration to say that Vocaloid grew up alongside internet culture.
Sparked by the release of the MEIKO library in 2004, countless masterpieces have continued to be created up to the present day.
Especially after Hatsune Miku’s debut in 2007, there are surely people who devoted their entire youth to the explosive Vocaloid boom centered on Niconico Douga.
In this article, we’ve put together a collection of nostalgic Vocaloid songs that helped shape that scene.
It’s a playlist perfect for diving into memories or discovering something new!

[Memories] A roundup of nostalgic and classic popular Vocaloid songs (51–60)
Heavenly MusicYuuyu

Wagakki Band’s cover version is cool too, isn’t it? It’s a hard rock number by the Vocaloid producer Yuuyu, also known as the creator of “Deep Sea Girl,” released in August 2009.
The fiercely distorted guitar sound, the surging bass, and the powerful drum work are all compelling.
Rin Kagamine’s vocals layered on top have a touch of sensuality, and as you listen, you get drawn into the world of the song.
The explosive power of the chorus is top-notch! It might not be an exaggeration to call it one of the pinnacles of Vocaloid rock.
Our 16-bit Warsasakure.UK

Once you hear that fusion-style soundscape, you can’t forget it! This is one of the signature works by sasakure.
UK, who also shines as the composer for the band Yuukei Rampage, released in 2009.
It’s a long-loved piece that was also included in the mobile game “Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! feat.
Hatsune Miku.” The song’s structure, which spotlights fusion—a rarity in the Vocaloid scene at the time—completely captivates you.
And its unpredictable developments and sounds still feel fresh today!
World Is Mineryo

Just hearing the intro takes me back and gets me hyped! It’s a hit number composed by ryo, who’s active as a composer in the creator unit supercell, released in 2008.
It also made waves in 2011 when it was used in a Toyota commercial.
The dynamic band sound colored by strings is irresistible.
Miku’s vocals have a solid core, which fits perfectly with the “spoiled princess” vibe of the lyrics.
There were especially many songs with Miku as the main star back then, weren’t there?
Online Game Addict SprechchorSatsuki galore

A Vocaloid track born from the internet age, sung over a drum’n’bass beat about the lifestyle of an online gaming addict.
It’s a signature work by Vocaloid producer Satsuki ga Tenkomori, released in October 2010.
A rearranged version was published in 2022 and drew attention.
It’s got a strong “hardcore grinder” vibe—real, in a way—and if you’ve been into PC gaming for a long time, you might find parts of the lyrics particularly relatable.

Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!daniwell

This is a work that sparked a worldwide boom! It’s a signature piece by daniwell, a Vocaloid producer known for an experimental style, released in July 2010.
The lyrics consist solely of “nya,” and the song structure is simple, with just a couple of phrases looping.
And yet, it’s a track you can keep listening to—there’s something mysteriously captivating about it.
Then in 2011, the derivative video “Nyan Cat” was posted on YouTube and went viral on a global scale.
It might just be the most famous Vocaloid song in the world.
Panda HeroBee

Kenshi Yonezu, known for hit songs like “Lemon,” actually started out not as a singer but as a Vocaloid producer.
Released under his Vocaloid producer name Hachi, “Panda Hero” is characterized by intense, complex song development that connects to the Kenshi Yonezu we know today.
Its groove, with emphasized off-beat rhythms, feels great, and the exhilarating sense of speed keeps you listening straight through to the end.
It’s my top recommendation as a nostalgic Vocaloid track to play on drives!
Dancing☆Samuraimathru

That first instant of the intro makes you want to start dancing, doesn’t it? Released in 2008 by Kanimiso-P, aka mathru, this song is probably the first one that comes to mind for many people when they think of a track sung by Kamui Gakupo.
With its Eurobeat sound and wildly over-the-top lyrics, the contrast took the Vocaloid scene by storm at the time.
Tons of fan-made derivative works, like cover videos, were posted too.
If you’re looking to lift your spirits, why not give it a listen again?
