Himeshima Village in Higashikunisaki District is the only village in Oita Prefecture, and it is said to be the “Onna-jima” (Female Island) that appears in the Japanese myth of the birth of the nation.

This song is a local tune performed by Daisuke Shitaka, an enka singer from Oita, and the video shows scenes from a charity concert held in 2015.

Beppu OndoKouta Katsutaro, Takeo Shimamura

Beppu Ondo is a song composed around 1933 that sings about the charms of Beppu Onsen.

It’s frequently played during the Bon Odori at the Beppu Summer Night Festival held every year, so it’s a very familiar tune for Beppu residents.

Hōyo StraitMiyako Otsuki

This is a song about the Bungo Channel, which lies between Oita City and Ikata Town and is also known as the Hoyo Strait (Hayasui Seto).

It was Miyako Otsuki’s 64th single, released in 1986, with music composed by Toru Funamura.

Incidentally, Miyako Otsuki has sung many other songs about straits as well.

This is a song about the Bungo Channel, located between Oita and Ehime Prefectures.

The singer is Miyuki Kawanaka, and it was released in 1988.

The lyrics were written by Yū Aku.
