Ranking of Popular House and Techno Songs

The straight-ahead path of dance music: four-on-the-floor.

Known overseas as “four on the floor,” it’s considered the standard rhythm of the dance floor.

Among the most timeless forms of electronic music are house and techno.

Built primarily with synthesizers, sequencers, and samplers, these genres continue to evolve, changing shape with the times.

Since 2015, we’ve seen the rise of new scenes: comparatively mellow, modern-leaning EDM like future house; hard techno that hosts massive festivals around the world; and tech house, an extremely groovy style that bridges house and techno.

This time, we’ll introduce the most popular tracks on our site in a ranked format.

Hallucinogen – LSD (1994)
LSDHallucinogen

Simon Posford, the composer known under the moniker Hallucinogen, is a figure in psychedelic trance.

While he’s renowned for crafting sharp, high-quality psytrance, he also has some darkpsy tracks.

Among them, the one I especially recommend is “LSD.” It’s a famous track, and many of you may recognize its intro.

It can be taken as a psychedelic trance piece as well, so it’s recommended for those who want a lighter, more accessible taste of darkpsy.

Panic in ParadiseX-Dream9rank/position

With the evolution of technology, Goa trance became known as psychedelic trance—designed to be trippier, with careful attention to the number of sounds and their placement.

X-Dream, born from Germany, the kingdom of techno, are masters of this kind of psychedelic trance.

Can You Feel ItMr Fingers10rank/position

Mr Fingers – Can You Feel It (Trax Records 1986)
Can You Feel ItMr Fingers

The legendary Chicago house label Trax Records.

Among its catalogue, this work stands out as an especially popular classic.

Partly due to the label’s policy, countless reissues, remasters, and digital distributions have been released, which tends to obscure the original—but the first release dates back to 1986, before house music had permeated the global market.

It was the dawn of the genre.

The “ecstatic, melancholic atmosphere” that later became a benchmark for deep house traces back to this track.

A quintessential masterpiece of Chicago deep.

TendencyJan Jelinek11rank/position

Musician Jan Jelinek, also known as the founder of the German label Faitiche, is characterized by meticulously crafted sound—almost artisanal in its precision—created by sampling jazz from the 1960s and 1970s and reconstructing fragments of those sounds second by second.

You can clearly sense that appeal when listening to the track “Tendency,” which I’m introducing today.

It’s included on the 2001 album Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records.

BOOM BOOM SATELLITES 『LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME』Short Ver.
LAY YOUR HANDS ON MEBOOM BOOM SATELLITES

BOOM BOOM SATELLITES was a Japanese rock duo active from 1999 to 2016.

“LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME” was their final single, and it was used as the opening theme for Kiznaiver.

Energy FlashJoey Beltram13rank/position

A monumental masterpiece released in 1990 on R&S Records, one of the most important labels in the history of techno music! This is an undeniable techno classic by Joey Beltram, the legendary techno musician born and raised in New York, USA.

Considering the context of the time—techno’s formative years and the heyday of the so-called rave sound—the overwhelming originality of the track Joey Beltram created, a precocious talent who had been immersed in club culture since his early teens, is truly shocking in how it belongs to no existing category.

Anchored by a powerful beat, fearlessly crafted sonics let freewheeling electronic sounds dart in every direction, yet the overall impression remains cool—surely a feat made possible by his New York roots.

Take ControlKREAM14rank/position

KREAM – Take Control (Official Lyric Video)
Take ControlKREAM

This track by the Norwegian brother duo KREAM features a dark, powerful sound with floor-shaking bass.

They are known as accomplished artists with worldwide popularity in melodic house.

The song seems to portray a thrilling battle for control in a romantic relationship and the exhilaration of unleashing hidden passion.

The polished beat feels like an expression of a strong will to regain emotional control.

Released in March 2021, it earned high praise from experts, including a nomination for House Song of the Year at the EDMAs.

How about giving it a listen during a nighttime city drive when you’re in the mood to feel a bit bold?
