Recommended for women in their 30s! Karaoke songs that are easy to sing even if you're not good at singing

I think there are many people who aren’t good at singing or don’t feel very confident about it.

But if you always turn down or shy away from joining karaoke outings, it might cause issues in your friendships or workplace relationships.

In this article, I’ve gathered songs that seem easier to sing, even for those who usually say things like “I’m not good at singing” or “I’m tone-deaf.”

Since many recent songs have complex melodies, I’ve included quite a few nostalgic tracks from the ’90s and earlier.

If you’re at karaoke with seniors or your bosses, that kind of song selection might actually be a good fit.

Some of the song descriptions include quick tips on how to make them sound good, so feel free to use them as a reference when you sing!

STARSMika Nakashima

Mika Nakashima 'STARS' MUSIC VIDEO Shorts ver.
STARS Mika Nakashima

Mika Nakashima is a female singer who has left many masterpieces with her distinctive vocal technique and catchy J-pop.

Because she’s an artist with many high-pitched phrases, you might be inclined to avoid her songs if you’re aiming for a high score.

Even so, there are surely people who still want to go for a high score with her tracks.

In that case, we recommend STARS.

It’s a mature-sounding ballad with a very high frequency of long tones, but the vocal range is relatively narrow, and the pitch movement isn’t overly dramatic.

If you can hold steady long notes without wavering, you should be able to sing it without issue.

You can also take advantage of the abundance of long tones to rack up extra points with vibrato.

Love, Day After TomorrowMai Kuraki

Mai Kuraki "Love, Day After Tomorrow"
Love, Day After Tomorrow by Mai Kuraki

Mai Kuraki, a female singer who was hugely successful in the 2000s.

She’s often compared to Hikaru Utada, but even in songs with an R&B flavor like Utada’s, her vocal lines are actually straightforward J-pop, so she has quite a few tracks that are surprisingly easy to sing.

Among them, the one I especially recommend is Love, Day After Tomorrow.

While it does feature some higher phrases, the overall pitch range isn’t that extreme, and the vocal line is fairly simple, making it a song that’s very conducive to scoring high—so long as you’re not uncomfortable with higher notes.

Papillon ~papillon~ Hitomi Shimatani

Hitomi Shimatani is a female singer who had a major breakthrough in the early 2000s.

She’s an impressive artist whose alluring looks contrast with her catchy vocals, and she has several hit songs to her name.

Among her works, one of the most stylish tracks is Papillon 〜papillon〜.

Although it leans toward an R&B flavor, the vocal line is surprisingly gentle and the range isn’t particularly wide.

Since the high-note phrases don’t cram in too many words or transition into long sustained notes, it’s a song that makes it relatively easy to aim for a very high score.

happiness!!! Kaela Kimura

Kaela Kimura is a female singer-songwriter who remains popular today.

She has many great songs, but the one I especially recommend for aiming at a high score is “happiness!!!.” It’s known as a classic from her early career.

While it contains quite a few slightly high phrases, there are almost no long sustained notes, so if you sing it in an appropriate key, you shouldn’t have trouble with the high range.

There are some English lyrics sprinkled in, but the vocal line itself is simple, so definitely consider adding it to your repertoire.

Circle of First LoveKo Shibasaki

Kou Shibasaki – Love’s First Journey
Ko Shibasaki – Hito Koi Meguri

Ko Shibasaki has been highly active not only as an actress but also as an artist.

Many women in their 30s may have admired her as an icon.

Among her songs, one I especially recommend for aiming at a high score is Hito Koi Meguri.

While it has a distinctive melody, the pitch doesn’t fluctuate drastically, making it surprisingly smooth and easy to sing.

The vocal range isn’t particularly wide either, so it doesn’t depend heavily on the singer’s voice type—another factor that makes it a strong choice for high scores.

BLUE BIRDAyumi Hamasaki

BLUE BIRD Ayumi Hamasaki

When it comes to artists who colored the youth of women in their 30s, Ayumi Hamasaki is probably the name that comes up most often.

Among her songs, the one I especially recommend as an easy pick for scoring high in karaoke is BLUE BIRD.

Although it feels like a refreshing and powerful track, it actually has a relatively narrow vocal range.

The few high notes that do appear are only in the upper-mid range at most, and they come and go quickly.

Considering its limited range and how easy it is to match the pitch, it’s definitely a song you can aim for a high score with.

Ayumi Hamasaki / fairyland (Short Ver.)
fairyland Ayumi Hamasaki

Ayumi Hamasaki’s classic “fairyland.” Because it opens with heavily effected vocals, it might at first seem like it wouldn’t be easy to sing, but that’s not the case.

Despite its energetic melody, the chorus’s vocal line is surprisingly straightforward, and the range stays within a reasonable span.

The high phrases are brief rather than sustained long notes, so it doesn’t depend much on the singer’s vocal timbre—another reason it’s relatively easy to aim for a high score.
